I'm surprised by the eloquency of Bax. Does anyone know the name of the 14-year-old winner of the Hammatsu competition?

Seong-Jin Cho from South Korea. He also won the Bronze Medai at the Tchaikovsky.

Stunning! He must've only been like 18 or something!

Me too. If his playing is half as mature as his words sound, he s one to watch closely.

I definitely think that he's a sensitive artist. He just posted his own program notes. Interesting to read what he had in mind: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IQfb...en_US&pli=1

You can find a masterclass of him playing the Fugue from the Hammerklavier for Barenboim on YouTube. Here's part 1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLRvOnbbpnI

Thanks, cho. I checked some of his work and i quite like his repertoire choices. he pplays the Liszt Handel sarabande and Chaconne from Almira, a weakness of mine!. His Bach is pretty neat too. Thanks for the link, will check it later at home.

Ooh??? He plays the Liszt-Handel Chaconne and Sarabande! So do I!!! The only recording I could find of it is Leslie Howard's, though, and I really don't like Howard's playing that much. I will check it out!

I have Bax's CD with that on it. "Baroque Reflections" and it is quite a good one. His recording of the Liszt-Handel Chaconne and Sarabande is fantastic!
