Hi

Just wondering what peoples views are on Yamahas new P155 (4-level AWM Dynamic Stereo Sampling) i recently sampled the P155 and didn't think the 4-level AWM sampling was as realistic compared to the P120s 3 level AWM sampling, just my opinion. The P120 seems to offer a much more rich expressive and authentic sound especially on piano strings and choir. Also there was a variation for each sound on the P120 giving it more expession but not on the P155, does anyone agree?.

I think the old three level sample is bolder, and yes, perhaps richer sounding than the four level version.

Well it's supposed to, but I agree with Steve, the sound in my older CP300, which was a 3 layer sample, sounded better than what I've heard from the P155. Sometimes newer isn't always better.

i think the same thing - the P250 I have has more bite - I've played the p155 and i think the p155 sample over all is a little better, but it's hard to get forte out of it.

I've always regretted not buying a P-120 when I had a chance a few years ago. Instead, I now own a P-155. I think the general consensus among those who have tried or heard both is that the P-120's piano sound is a lot nicer sounding, richer, more rounded and pleasant -- despite being only three sample levels as opposed to four. I agree with this view.

Just another example of where specs don't mean everything.

I´ve tried out a lot of digitals.
Personally I could never make out the difference between 2 instruments in the same price category. They all sounded the same from Yamaha crazy
And as far as I know AWM is still beeing used. Maybe it´s (due to marketing reasons) called differently, but it still is the same thing.

Can anybody compare its sound quality also with Yamaha CLP-340, based on specification, these two modesl share almost the same sound board. Is it true to say that the P155 is the stage version of the CLP 340? Thanks.

I assume Winter NAMM 2012 will bring us updates to the CP lineup as well as perhaps a P160 that incorporates the newer sound technology from the CLP400 series? Both would be welcomed. Of course the CP lineup will only be 2 years old in 2012, so maybe that won't get an update.

Thanks for your response everyone, I'm not alone then.

Zachary explaines it well... Sometimes newer isn't always better.

I hope Yamaha/Roland/Kawai also follows the Nord path so hopefully we could have more than one option for a digital piano with updatable samples.

I also wish to see more digital pianos from Nord. Why we cannot have a Nord Piano with a decent action like MP10? Or a Nord piano including a recorder?
