These is a 2006 Seiler Concert Grand for sale that has never been previously sold by the dealer. Has anyone played a Seiler Concert Grand (278) and if so how is the touch, tone and overall quality and finish quality of the instrument. Of other brands you have played which would the Seiler most remind you of? Thanks for any input on this

I've played a bunch of Seilers over the years. Including the big ones. I like them. I don't think they are as much to my taste as other pianos in that price point. I've always found the sound a little on the transparent side of the spectrum. But they are very well built pianos and if YOU like them you really can't go wrong.

We had one 278 and it was a great instrument.

Played a new one briefly and heard a concert on it at the Wisconsin MTA conference last year. Action was remarkably smooth and easy, most notably. Like some of the other European grands, I kind of liked the sound a lot for certain repertoire and not so much for other stuff, but that's completely subjective. I'm not sure whether he still has it, but it was for sale by Dave Hulbert's shop near Milwaukee. (he was nice enough to donate the use of a couple of 'em at the conference)

The overall tonal quality of the piano has more emphasis in the fundamental. Concert grands are not easy pianos to control usually the increments in the tonal color can be abrupt.
In the case of Seiler the transitions of tonal color are very gradual.
The action is well balanced, with a remarkable strong up-weight.
Incredible tuning stability is another highlight of these pianos.
Absolutely delightful instruments!

I have had very favorable experiences with Seiler pianos. They can be very powerful instruments but have an excellent dynamic range of tone! I can also second the above comments about tuning stability, a well balanced action, etc. While I haven't played your specific Seiler, I have worked with the model 278 before. Comparing it's tone to other concert grands is a little difficult. Every manufacturer has their own unique character. The Seiler is no exception. As far as build quality and fit and finish, the Seiler piano is extremely well built...just take a look at the rim and soundboard. I hope this helps some! Happy piano hunting!

I played a fairly new or new Seiler concert grand a few years ago at a piano dealer in Wheeling and liked it very much. My impression was that it was a very high quality piano with a shimmering clear tone.

More importantly, I bought a 1920's Knabe concert grand from the the dealer you've been talking with. I recommend Dan very highly. It was a great experience, and I would not hesitate to deal with him again. (This was more than ten years ago. I flew to Manhattan, KS to see the piano and eventually bought it.) BTW, I later sold that piano to a church in Pittsburgh and now have a 60s vintage Baldwin F, but I was very happy with the Knabe.
