As I've been getting into midi lately, to get my e-drumkit to sound convincing enough to record a one-man doom/sludge/progressive metal album in the corner of my livingroom, I also remembered my old Viscount Viva-X digital piano has a midi out in the back as well.
Finding free piano VST's suddenly got back into piano these last weeks. In my early to late 20's I was fairly good, could get through most of Ravel's Ondine, play several Rachmaninov preludes and so on, unfortunately all slipped from my fingers.
Well I also wrote some pieces long ago. Ah I'll just paste the description of my Youtube video as it explains it all.:

In a search to find a good free piano VST for my digital piano I came across General piano VST by Safwan Matni. This free piano VST makes my piano sound amazing, very expressive to play, warm. But it has some flaws as well. The lowest octave is messed up and has no sustain. Why the heck..Ok I solved it by making a midi split and hand the lowest octave to another vst, in this case Yannleo's Accentor but you can even use MDA-piano or something tweaked to sound like the general piano vst atleast in the lowest register, and it works.
Another problem with this VST is the limited polyphony but you have to get pretty crazy pedal down before it becomes a problem and maybe I'll find a midi solution for that too. A bigger problem is that it won't allow the same key to sound multiple times, so when you play a key hard and then soft the loud note is cut off and this is often noticeable, also in this piece. Still it's highly worth the download because of sound alone, best sounding free piano VST by far IMHO.

Never had equipment that I felt was worth recording solo piano with till now so I figured a good way to start recording is with my first "real" pianopiece I wrote some 15 years ago. A terrible piece and playing but still I'm glad I can record these things in ok quality now so they won't be lost.
Viscount Viva-X digital piano. Roland UM-1G Midi interface. Reaper to record and handle midi. MuseScore used as sheetmusic program.

Does anyone happen to know which samples are used for this VST? If perhaps they are open and freeware. Or even know what type of piano they come from.

Nope, but that's a good idea now that you mention it.. Will give that a try. Thanks.
