Hi Folks... Well, I realized that I had never come back on here to tell you what had been going on with me since failing my exam back in August. I have not gone back to teacher #2. I started lessons with a new teacher. I was taking a theory course with her, and asked her to take me on as a student. She was kind enough to tell me that I would NOT be ready to ace this exam in January, so I am now aiming for June. I think my pieces will be ready this time, but the technical needs a lot of work. She will not allow me to do the exam if she feels I am not ready. My former teacher let me go ahead and do it even when I shouldn't have!! I have been back at weekly lessons since November. This new teacher is very caring, and is very interested in what I am doing. We are currently working on a duet together... something I have never done before She has also made up a practice schedule for me to follow regarding my technical (She did this for all the grade 7 students). It outlines what I should do weekly between now and June. Again, I would like to thank all of you for your kind words, and wanted to let you know the progress I have made!! That's outstanding all round! And it seems, reading between the lines of your post, that you're enjoying playing and studying more now than when you were with "teacher 2." Just think... you wouldn't be with your current teacher, and probably wouldn't be enjoying music as much as you are now, if you hadn't had the exam outcome that you did. As someone said earlier in the thread, you can't really "fail" a good exam, and it sure sounds as though your exam brought about a lot of good!

Good news 80! Glad you have a new teacher you like and are preparing, properly, for retaking the exam!

Don't give up! This was just a minor set back. Charles Schulz was rejected 40 times before his comic was finally picked up. Good thing he didn't give up. Can you imagine a world without the peanuts?!
Personally I would find a teacher that works more with adults. I've had a few teachers, and the one I have now really understands how adult piano students learn and some of the challenges we encounter (work, family etc).
Also, you're so close to the "end" why stop now? I think this is very common, a tendency to want quit when your so close to finishing. I saw it in Tae Kwon Do and in school.
Hang in there and you'll be fine.

80z, I am so happy you found a new teacher and are continuing on your journey! Grade 7 here she comes!! I couldn't imagine somebody quitting just like that and I'm glad you didn't!! Chalk this up as experience to help any students who may fail in the future. Good for you!

J.K.Rowling on the benefits of failure: click here Awesome speech on how she failed many many times and was told by lots of people to give it up... She of course ignored them all and went on to become one of the worlds richest most celebrated authors.
