I'm not sure if these pianos were sold outside of the UK, so perhaps I could ask a UK based Piano Tech if there are any known issues with these pianos, i.e. are they worth buying, if in good condition, and how much they are worth.

The Kastner Welhau action fitted to some B & R pianos had green plastic centres and key bushings. After a lot of use they would wear down and become loose, which resulted in a clicking noise. Because the plastic components were larger than conventional cloth key bushings and action centres, the holes in the keys and whippens to accommodate these parts had to be bigger than normal. Replacing the plastic parts with conventional cloth bushings and action centres if needed, is much more difficult than normal and would be more than the piano's worth.

IMHO, not worth buying this model unless you can buy it for less than £300 and a tech has confirmed there is plenty of wear left in the bushings and centres as well as an OK structural report..

Thanks for the info. Chris. I was going to buy it for my granddaughter to thrash around on, I'll give it a miss I think.

London Piano Auctions have a sale on 15th September and have plenty of cheap uprights if that's what you want. If you're in town on 13th 14th or 15th you could check out what they have - plenty to view all under one roof.
