I really hate to watch and listen to him. Every time I do I want to light my piano on fire and just give up playing all together. His artistry is unmatched along with his ego. "Nobody's perfect" .

All the tunes on these albums: Belonging, Nude Ants, Personal Mountains, Death and the Flower, Expectations, Treasure Island, Dark Intervals, El Juicio, Fort Yawuh, My Song, etc.

Thanks Swarth, I enjoyed listening to that. I've had quit a bit of exposure to Keith J. over many years and a few times in concert solo and with trio. This piece came up as a follow up/suggestion of Keith's on YouTube after listening to the above. Sweet improv...
Thanks Dara, yes his nervous system was 100% on alert during the whole 8.5 min improv.
Many thanks Chris and jazzpt, I look forward to listening to Keith's compositions over the next few days. I'm relatively new to jazz and don't know these compositions but it seems to me that for whatever reason, Keith's compositions are not as widely played as those of Bill Evans and other composers such as Sonny Rollins.
Was the vid posted by Dara an example of modal improv ?

Not many pianists dare to play Jarrett compositions. An unfavourable comparison with Jarrett would almost certainly result. It is a shame because has written so many great tunes, and plenty of other stuff as well, but nobody can play it like him.

I've been listening to alot of his trio work and trying to pick up some of his stylings. An agrument could be made that he is currently the best jazz pianist alive today, though McCoy Tyner fans might disagree. I just enjoy them for the wonderful music they make. I also like to take a standard and then listen to as many versions as I can find. You can really appreciate the differences and find some players you might not have heard before or forgotten like, Roy Budd.

Release in Japan is Oct 19 while the UK and US have to wait to Nov 7 and 8 respectively.
I've seen a jazzwise interview excerpt in which he says this could be one his greatest ever concerts. The encores are improvised I think so no standards like Over the Rainbow etc.

Yes, I've just spent three days in the studio with him recording a new duo album that I'm producing/mixing. He's absolutely a fantastic musician! It was a sheer joy listening to him, take after take. This duo album is going to be a must have for pianists (Palle's sister is playing the piano) and bassists alike.

The trio is going to be playing at Zellerbach this coming Saturday. I almost bought some tickets but thought better of it for a few reasons. The only seats left were not that best and still 30-60 a pop + fees. Then the size of the venue, 2000+ is just too big in my mind for a trio, now days I'd rather see these types of performers in a more intimate setting. It's a shame it's so hard to make the numbers work for greats like these. Lastly, even though the jazz crowd in the Bay Area is usually welled heeled, Berkeley is a different story. The chance for an unpleasant encounter, while hopefully slim is certainly a distinct possibility.
