Hello people, hope everyone's doing well.
The family is looking to get a piano in the range of $6,000. Jacobs music here in NJ is having a sale and they have this essex 123S for $5900 +tax and delivery. Is this good? I really don't have any idea on what to buy, that's why I joined the forum to get help from pros.
Any good piano (Yamaha) in the price range of $6000?
thank you for all your help in advance!
Mark

swabe - The Essex model is made by Pearl River for Steinway and I don't think that price is too bad. I've been looking at Ritmuller pianos which are another premium line made by Pearl River. I was quoted a price of $5200 for a UH-121 in polished Sapele finish. This is a similar size to the model you're thinking of purchasing. Given that the Essex might have a slightly fancier cabinet design and having that "Essex by Steinway" logo somewhere on it, it's probably a fair price. BTW, I'm jealous ... I used to live in NJ and it beats NC for not having to drive endless miles to different piano dealers!

Oh, and I forgot to add that the Yamaha U and YUS models ...new, start to close in and surpass 10K+, the higher you go in the series!

Yes thats a great price! I paid $800 more for my Essex 123 last summer (2010)...ofcourse I had no idea I was getting ripped off and could have gotten something a little better for cheaper. But overall, I was very happy with it. Sounds huge. And thats a great price. And I chose mine over a Yamaha...but that's personal preference. Good luck!

What else have you looked at?
The Essex is a good piano, and if you like the tone and touch that's what matters. But look around, take your time. There's a lot of pianos in that price range out there.

Personally, I would not pay $6,000 for a Chinese upright piano. Since you're in NJ, I would stop over at Worldwide Piano in Edison. They're a NJ dealer for the Charles Walter, which is an American-made piano that's in a different tier than the pianos you've mentioned:
Worldwide Piano 691 US Highway 1 Edison, NJ 08817 (877) 742-6607
Tell Rick (the owner) what your intentions are, see if he can help...

I do not have a yamaha, it is actually antique. I am willing to sell it for $850. That is as high as i want it. It sounds really good. Pretty much perfect condition and everything, just needs a little tuning is all. It is called a Starr upright piano made in 1880.
