We all know what Rock n' Roll is about, right? This selection below includes analysis of a mature nature. Some of it might be rated R or even rated, "Health Class," if you know what I mean. The author states his views in a matter of fact manner. This particular clip (and others in the multi-part series) references the author's earlier analytical work and is intended as an update or video addendum of sorts. In any case, much meaning can be derived from it without having seen the earlier work, and my purpose in sharing this is to throw us into the deep end of the pool for a post or two. A point of departure for this clip is a mis-heard lyric.

P.S., crescendo, notice that nobody answered my question about where the chorus melody of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" came from?
If no comments, I promise I won't bump it again.

The meta-discussion lately is a bit tiresome.

For god's sake........ do you really, seriously think that I was going around saying (or thinking) "Hey everybody, those people that never got a chance or have mental limitations are suckers!" NO! I'm not THAT brainless! Christ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...... I'm just speechless, wow. Simply WOW. What a thing to accuse me of. You should be ashamed of yourself.
ASHAMED! I would NEVER.... I'm.. too mad to even continue
And you know what? I don't even think of myself as that intelligent. But yes, I DO wish there were more people with common sense, especially people that make decisions about OUR education systems, about funding in the arts or research, etc. That is ALL I meant. Sweet.. jesus...
Pogo, there are times I share your frustration. When Bush got elected (and re-elected) I was frustrated at the American people. I'm sure there are people out there now frustrated that Obama is President and if he's re-elected they'll know how I felt. Actually I'm frustrated with Obama now, but I don't see anything on the republican side that gives me hope (Huntsman has no chance, and Romney is a political version of Gumby).
Sorry I didn't want to make this thread political (that would be the kiss of death). So I'll bring it back to music. Others have posted about discovering Beethoven and Brahms, for me it was the organ music of Bach. So much of it is incredibly deep, but does anyone else hear it? Perhaps Argerichfan, but most here probably just hear heavy organ music and the walls of distaste go up. You can't feel the emotional impact of Bach's counterpoint if you have a distaste for the sound of the instrument. It's when we become tolerant of this reality that we can begin to have the power to approach others in a way that will allow them to understand. If all you do is whine about "brainless" and "being too mad to continue" then all anyone will hear is whining. I say this as someone who usually enjoys your contributions here and with utmost respect for your pianistic abilities.
BTW, I just spent an hour reading the last ten pages of this thread. That was valuable time I should have been practicing. Oh well, I was entertained!

But you couldn't resist a drive-by attack on republicans. I was frustrated that Bush turned out to be nearly as liberal as most democrats. But that's the choice we get these days: liberal and liberal-lite. No wonder the country is spiraling toward certain doom.

Bach's organ works were also among the first pieces of music that I truly loved - the Fantasia in G major BWV 572, and the Adagio from BWV 564. I nearly cried when I heard them the first time. Such beauty and greatness.

I wish I could appreciate the organ more. Maybe one day it'll click. I used to not like Shostakovich until I heard the Kirov do 15..... It was life changing! I just stood there after and didn't want to move.
(btw sorry about my little outburst. It's been a hectic week and I've been extra bitchy....)

I do. Did you happen to see the Bach organ thread I originated?

There needs to be more than a drive-by. That said, I'm disgusted not only by the rethuglicans but the dems as well. Bush, however, should be sitting in a jail cell somewhere.

We've drifted away from the original topics multiple times in this thread. Now that we've segued into politics for the second time, we're done. Thread closed.
