I've been a member of this fabulous site for awhile, but this is my first post. I just came across a 1879 Seiler 5' grand (artcase), and would love to take a look at it. I've been trying to find some background info on it, but I haven't found much. Does anyone have any information about Seiler pianos during for that time?

Thanks for the information. I did go see it. It looked like it was in decent shape with a nice sound. It had not been tuned for 3 years. Unfortunately, it had 85 keys...which I guess may have been the standard for that era? I guess I'll continue on with my quest.

Actually, the fact that it had 85 keys wouldn't stop me from buying a piano you otherwise like. Those keys are very rarely used, even in more modern music. But, it doesn't matter now as you say you are continuing and passing this piano, but I thought I'd mention this.
