I've to update first with 1.08 or I can update directly with 1.09 and fix all the problems.

Does this mean that you have decided to purchase a CA63 after all?

Osiris6661, Kawai digital piano software updates are cumulative, meaning that they include all the fixes/changes from any previously available update.

Therefore, it is not necessary to update to v1.08 before running the v1.09. Indeed, this would be impossible as the v1.08 software was not distributed publicly.

Regarding the 'safety' of these software updates, modern Kawai instruments have built-in fail-safes to prevent such problems occurring. Furthermore, instruments with 'USB to Device' connectors are far more reliable than the old, slow MIDI method employed by the MP9000/MP9500.

Kind regards,
James

Osiris6661, you should be fine. However, if you are in any doubt, I would recommend clarifying with the local distributor for Kawai digital pianos in your country.

Kind regards,
James

However, I believe I am correct in stating that previously, when using the 'User Temperament' function, it was not possible to adjust the pitch of 'A' without the pitches of other notes also being affected. The v1.09 update corrects this behaviour. This covers point 2a, however I'm still a little uncertain about point 2b. I will try to clarify this for you.

Thanks James, I look forward to the clarification.

Hello Maurus,

I have clarified change point 2b with the CA93/CA63 software engineer and believe my initial translation is correct: When 'User Temperament' is selected, it is no longer possible to change the 'Key of Temperament' setting. Specifically, the 'Key of Temperament' setting still appears in the LCD, but does not respond to panel button changes.

Kind regards,
James

For anyone playing with their own tunings (I am aware that this is a small minority) this is bad news. I would beg Kawai engineers to reconsider the decision to remove this option.

maurus, assuming you are based in Europe, I would recommend contacting Kawai Europe to explain in great detail why you are dissatisfied with this adjusted 'User Temperament' behaviour.

James

Hi

On my CA63, after doing the firmware upgrade from 1.07 to 1.09 (which worked without any trouble, as described in the documentation), I can not read out the firmware version number any more. With version 1.07 this worked.
Now, when I press the Keys 4 5 6 while powering on, I get a message saying "Flash Programming wait command" instead of a version number.

Besides this, the upgrade seems to have worked - it showed its success message after flashing, and I could verify that I can press a key without hearing a tone.

What's wrong?

Thank you
Siggi

Hello SiggiH,

Thank you for your post. I will ask the software chaps to confirm that the version check buttons have not changed in v1.09.

Kind regards,
James

Hi
I got a hint from the German Kawai forum that it looks like I pressed the wrong keys (< F >) instead of 4 5 6 ....
Now it works as it should. Sorry for bothering you

I applied the update to my CA63 and it all went as expected - thanks for the heads up!

One thing that someone else mentioned is that the link to the documentation for the CA63 is wrong. In fact, it's not the link that is wrong. The PDF file is named "ca63_v109_en" but refers to the CS9 in the text. This is both the "standalone" PDF that is linked from the website, as well as the document that is in the zip file with the firmware download.

NonPlayer, thank you for your feedback - I'm glad to hear that the update was applied successfully.

Regarding the mismatched update instructions, I will ask my colleagues at Kawai Germany to correct this issue. In the meantime, the documentation may be downloaded from the URL below.

Kawai software updates are not region specific, so yes, you can use the updates available from the Kawai Japan website with instruments purchased in the US (or Europe, Australasia, etc.).

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
