Hi all,
I saw an ad for a 22-year-old Upright PETROF Piano (Made in Czech Republic). Here is the information provided by the seller:
Upright Piano Height:124cm
Class: GrandPrix Barcelona,Bruxelles,Paris-1958
They asked for US3500. I wonder if it's worthwhile to take a look. What might go wrong? Sorry my question might be too generic as I'm still learning how to select piano. I hope get some advice here as well. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Read the advice given in Larry Fine's book (http://www.amazon.com/Piano-Book-Buying-Owning-Used/dp/1929145012) before you embark on your piano hunt. Your local library should have a copy. Do not rush, take your time. $3500 is a lot of money for a lot of people.

Also, given the age of the instrument, the green-cover edition of the Piano Book (I think that is the 3rd edition) would be a more accurate descriptor of the initial quality of that piano.

Most pianos are worth taking a look at. Play it and if you like the sound and touch, the two most important things, find a tuner (in Dubai?), you'll need one anyway, and get another opinion . . . If you don't like the sound or touch keep looking . . . I'm not sure what the local Dubai piano scene is like, so your choices may be limited . . .

Good luck finding the "Piano Book" in your local library. Good luck, in Dubai, finding your local library . . . also, take a few pictures of the inside, outside, the back(soundboard), especially the serial number, etc. and post them here for some more opinions . . .
