So my studio got turned into a spare bedroom and my imac is now in a different room from the RD. I hear that there's a version of Garage Band ported for the ipad. Does anyone have experience of this, and are there any other sequencers out there for GB that you have found to work well. My preference would be for something with a little more functionality, like Logic Express, but I could get by with GB, especially if I was able to import files to my mac for use with Sibelius.

Alternatively would it just be better to get a laptop and run my old version of Sonar (which I didn't get on with very well)?

I also remember that with my old RD700, I couldn't trigger the internal piano sounds when playing back a file (which didn't natter, given that the GB piano was better that the RD's at that point). Now, however, I would prefer the internal RD700NX piano sound. Does anyone have any insight into this issue?

Thanks all,

Jonathan

I use the Alesis iOdock with GB and various keyboards. It doesn't compare to my MacBook setup but it is definitely w good, versatile iPad setup.

Thanks Hideki, I hadn't heard about the iOdock, but it looks like a useful tool.

I think tablets are the way to go. They will only get more powerful as time goes on. There must be 100 iPad apps that will work with your piano. if you have an iMac with Logic then getting GB on the iPad would alow you to exchange files. The cost of GB is just pocket change.

The iPad can also work as a remote display for the iMac

Here is a list of iPad apps. Prices are so low you can get a dozen of them

If you don't like the iPad, look at getting a "moni" before you buy a notebook. The mini is not only cheaper but it is small enogh to hid or mount with velcro under the piano. Then you can control it with blue tooth magic trackpad keyboard. A notebook requires the screen keyboard and trackpad to all be together but this is not best for use with a piano.

I really like the form factor of the ipad, and would rather have something that could be popped onto a music stand than a laptop that needs a table. Also, I'm mac-based, and would prefer to keep it that way.

Thanks, Chris for the links. I'm wondering how many others are using tablets to make music - and whether there are any good music apps for Android based tablets.

I'm also wondering if anyone out there knows whether there are any programs that communicate midi data via bluetooth (necessitating a bluetooth transmitter plugged into ones DP). Or perhaps there's a goldmine awaiting the person (engineer-type, Dewster?) to create such a system smile I really would like to be able to say

"Siri, record this..."

Aah, one day...
