Andy, I just happened to notice when I was at 1997.....so it was pretty easy to say hmmmmmm, I think I'll pay attention for a few minutes.

smile

On the one hand I think it is amusing, on the other hand, I wonder...do I spend too much time here? smile (I think it is time well spent!)

my big achievement of the week is becoming single again.
my GF decided to dump me while I formally asked her to marry me.

For some reason the Rach 3 is sounding continuously in my mind.

It's piano related because the kawai was her gift to me... now we have to decide what to do with it.
a part of me is saying... keep it just for how she dumped me.. a part of me is saying to give it back to her so she can sell it frown

Oh, I am so sorry Ataru074.
I vote for keeping the piano!! Not for the reason you mentioned, but because she gave it to you as a gift. Was the gift given under explicitly stated conditions that you would not keep it in the event that your relationship ended?

My wife and I decided to take a few days off and went to a hotel in southern Portugal. To my bad luck (or not smile ) I got a slight fever during the first day and could not enjoy the pool and beaches. The wonderful of this story is that the hotel had a piano in the lobby (yamaha) and while my wife was in the pool I was playing the piano during the afternoon (Yeahhh).
The funny thing is that I received the first applause of my life because the guests were staying in the hotel lobby to hear the pieces to the end.
On the day I went away, and when I was checking out the hotel, the receptionist asked me to play again (!) and as I told him that "Yes, of course," he offered me 10% off rate and did not charge me the car park and the extras.
So this is my AOTW I wanted to share with you.

Ataru074, I never counted but there must be more women than pianos ... So, I'm sure you will find the ideal woman for you.

Ataru074, I'm really sorry your relationship ended in such a way. It is sad when a story ends, but this must have been extra shocking for you if you were proposing and she was ready to break up!!

It is tricky to know what to do about the piano. She did give it to you as a gift, and I bet you didn't discuss what to do in the event of a break up!

There are many ways of dealing with the situation - and you probably have mixed feelings about keeping it.
I wish you well in going through all the necessary decisions.

Carlos, that is really great! What a story!!!
I think that's a pretty significant achievement.
Good for you ! (I bet the receptionist is a big Einaudi fan!)
I congratulate you!

Thanks!
To be honest I think the receptionist had never heard Einaudi, but IMO their music has that effect on people. But what I enjoyed most was to receive the applauses, because I had not realized that there were people seated behind me listening the pieces. That was good.

Does that mean you are now a "professional" piano player? smile

I'm starting a Bach 2-part Invention this week: #13 in A-minor. I was kind of dreading going back to Bach, until I happened to run across a recording of them for violin/viola/cello. Those performances were so beautiful, I'm now inspired, and have picked out a couple of the 3-part Inventions that I want to work on eventually. You can listen to them here .

My teacher told me last night that I'm starting to naturally play more musically. *Yay* I'm making progress!

LOL, I wish I could say that! That would be good, but unfortunately the only similarity between my work and the piano are the "keys" ... I work with computers ... smile

That's very good! Congratulations. IMO those kind of fellings can not be learned in books, just playing.

Carlos...that story just makes me smile to think of your success. Nice!!

Ataru074...how painful. Sorry to hear that it happened that way. Hope you talk about the piano and work something out that feels right.

Mary Bee...that is a wonderful achievement to sound musical. Good for you.

Today my accomplishment is getting a good run through of a piece I'm working on for a piano get together for Monday night. Never flawless but not painful to the ears either.

This is my favorite of all the 2 part inventions. I think it was used in a commercial a while ago, but don't remember for what product.

ataru74 - Arggh. Hope it all works out for you. On the bright side you could eventually wind up with a better piano and a better woman someday. Life can take some strange turns at times.

Carlos - Your first paying gig! Congrats.

MaryBee - You must be excited to have the invention on tap. I've been waiting (and hoping) for my teacher to assign one for a while. Gotta love that positive feedback - sometimes its the only tangible way to reassure ourselves that progress is happening all the time.

That's a great story! And since the receptionist asked you to play in public, doesn't that mean you get one of those little grand piano thingys (in your signature) casinitaly mentioned? smile

Seriously - good for you, for having the confidence to play in that environment, and better yet for sharing it with the other guests... kudos!

Yippee - finally played through the Debussy Arabesque without needing the music. I won't call it 100% memorized because some parts aren't "fixed" yet. But it's one week ahead of schedule.

Now, to get it to sound more like Debussy and less like De-Andy ... wink

  • Debussy - Le Petit Nègre, L. 114
  • Haydn - Sonata in Gm, Hob. XVI/44

Hi,

Memorized and learned Bach Pr and F B-Major from WTC I. Learning process was much quicker than usually with Bach.
It was a real pleasure to learn Bach. The memorizing process has become much more efficient since I use learning from note sheet without a piano.

You can like basically close your eyes and play on the imaginary piano.
See the notes on the keyboard after watching them in the note sheet.
The motions can be felt and sound listened to as well.
This makes also the concentration level and quality better by my experience.

Hi Carlos,

well, now that you ask specifically.... I'm not sure what the rules are or where they can be found (I've been looking for 20 minutes!)

I know you can put one if you you have played at a recital, but I seem to recall that when I asked about it (and I can't find the thread!).... I was told "when you play in public".....

Maybe we should make a new thread and ask who knows about the rules?
