I think it needs more "vocal" line over the accompaniment in spots, but until I can get a better result (for the Liszt e-cital) this will have to do!

Schubert/Liszt : Der Muller und der Bach

There needs to be way more dynamic contrasts for it to be more effective and refined. I feel the introduction could be a lot softer, for instance.

Also, there is not enough distinction between the melody and the accompaniment. The melody needs to sing more but so does the accompaniment because that is, IMO, what pushes the piece along.

The accompaniment could be smoother and perhaps a bit more delicate, too. Especially at the con intimo sentimento.

Anyways, really nice job. smile I always enjoy listening to this piece.

Perhaps what you are "hearing" while playing (i.e., the balance between the vocal line and accompaniment) is a tad different than what the recorder is actually picking up. I've been struggling with that myself for the past couple of weeks, and have found that I need to exaggerate things more in order for the contrasts to be reflected in the digital recording.

Actually I enjoyed this very much. Beautiful lied - effective arrangement - and thoughtful, sensitive playing. thumb

Thank you for the encouragement, Carey.

It may also be - as has been proven in the past - that what I think I am playing and thus what I think is coming out of the instrument, is partly a figment of my imagination. I may need, not only for the digital recorder, but for the live listener(s) to seemingly exaggerate what I think I am doing in terms of both balance and dynamics.

Regards,

Didn't you say you were using Audacity? It seemed to me that the "vocal" line really only needed a boost in the midrange and your recording sounds bassy to me (compared to prerecorded material on my system) You could possibly rectify this with EQ in Audacity. Regardless, I enjoyed the piece as is. Good job!
