I am experiencing Hammer Sounds (especially in the upper registers) even though I have the Hammer Noises setting at -100dB and I do not have it lit up. I have tried having it lit and also tried setting the slide bar all the way to the right.
Nothing seems to eliminate those hammer sounds.

I can live with it but would rather not.
Any ideas ?

Actually the idea of having a hammer sound separate from the sound of the string is a little strange to me overall. How were they able to make the string vibrate to get the recording without using a hammer? So there must be hammer sounds in every sample. But then why add a control for hammer sounds?

So I guess it makes sense to me that hammer sounds appear in the main sample, but I wasn't expecting an extra dial for it.

We're talking about the same thing, right? The sound of the hammer hitting the string?

"Hammer noise" in Kontakt/Galaxy Vintage D lingo is the sound of the key/action resetting when you release it. It can be a pretty loud noise on an acoustic, when you pay attention to it.

Ahhh. Just goes to show that it really was my imagination when I was turning up and down hammer noises to change the impact noise. smile

So, are you suggesting that the "Hammer Noise" setting in Galaxy Vintage D is working properly and that eliminating it is not supposed to be an option ?

Yeah, he's saying the noise of a hammer hitting a string is part of the basic piano sound and can't be changed. The "hammer noise" setting is actual noise associated with the release, not the impact. Come to think of it, I think I might remember this from the video on noises on the Galaxy website.

I should re-watch those.

I don't know if it's hammer noise or ham 'n' eggs ... but my noise comes and goes. If I reload, it's gone for a while.

Can you describe in detail when and what you hear? BTW you are updated to 1.2, right?

I'll see if I can get the same result.

Oops. It was the Damper Noises. I guess those are "on" for some presets, and "off" for others.

Now I know better: Just shut 'em off!

I noticed that all Galaxy II pianos I have (Vintage, Vienna, Steinway) contain the same relatively quiet but "spiky" sound which is heard when you release a key and sound of note is fading (release samples and all other noises are disabled in Kontakt 5 standalone). It is only for mids and higher notes. For example for the first several notes when you play Fur Elise. It seems to be part of note sample (even it doesn't change with different note), but it can be distracting mainly with good headphones, much smaller issue with speakers. Is this the Hammer Noise or something else? What worries me is that I tried also Native Instruments pianos (Vienna grand, New York grand) and they clearly do not share this “issue”. Any thoughts?

I am not updated to 1.2

How do I update ?

And, I seem to remember you saying that you had some difficulty doing that. Is it worth the trouble ?

EDIT: Update .... I found the SERVICE CENTER where all the updates are. So, I guess I will update both KONTAKT PLAYER and Vintage D and hope for the best.

Another EDIT: Here is a question ... see there are two update versions of Vintage D available in the service center. Do I have to download both of them or just the latest version ?

Normally, I would think just the latest version but with this stuff I want to be sure before I screw things up.

I don't know whether 1.1.1 is necessary first. Probably not. But I installed it first just because I'm paranoid.

Yeah my 1.2 installation did not work the first time (or second or third). Something about the computer I was using was a problem. I literally installed it on my other computer and then copied the resulting folder over. Ghetto.

Is it worth it? Well, I don't notice anything different except they've removed some stuff I don't use from the interface. And it loads less stuff into memory. If you don't have any complaints about the repetition code (I never did), it probably isn't important. As MacMacMac would probably say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I haven't heard anything like this. Can you be more specific so I can try and reproduce it: what note, about what velocity, and how long after pressing the key does it happen? And can you describe the spikey sound with a bit more detail?

I tried to record sample of it in Cantabile, but when I opened Kontakt using VST 64 bit plugin the issue was gone for all Galaxy pianos. It is strange, but it is related to Kontakt 5.0.1 standalone version only. That's good news because it means that there is nothing wrong with samples, but still I wonder where is the root of evil smile

It is hard to describe. Normally, when you release the key the sound fades very quickly (with release samples disabled of course). When issue is there it fades too, but with a strange spikey volume increase at the end. It is like when key is released the sample volume envelope is falling down properly, but at the end there is an additional hillock so instead to keep falling down there is short volume increase. It is most audible for mid and higher tones when you hold the key for a while (~1 sec). I can use microphone to record it.

Hmmm. Next time I'm with my piano I'll try this out. So if I just play one note and keep it held down for like 30 seconds or whatever it takes to decay that far I will hear it?
