I will receive piano from my parents. I think its impossible to tune it anymore. Dont know english term, but "echo plate" has a crack I think because of dry conditions at winter time.

However I am intrested to know how old it is (about). Piano is black and Brand is Ernst wittig, berlin. What is period when this piano brand has been manufactured? I think it is quite old. atleast 50yrs.

No, there is not much information about the manufacturer. The only information that I have is that the company began in 1863, so it was probably gone by about 1900. You should give serious thought to sending this piano to the recyclers now rather than bringing it to your home and sending it to them later.

Ernst Wittig stopped making pianos in 1912, so your piano is 100 years old. You probably mean that the sound board has a crack. This is quite common pianos that are as old as yours. A cracked soundboard does not mean the end of the world for a piano. However, if the piano will not hold a tuning, it is unplayable. It is a bit like a car - what is the use of a car that you can't drive?

Repairing loose tuning pins is possible, but the cost of that could be much more than your piano is worth, depending on the situation.

Thanks for the Info. I think It was about 15 years a go, when somebody (Not Official klavierbauer) tried to tune it, but there were some problem. I think he only tries to tune it. Not to replace any parts. Piano is now coming to our house. we decide What to do with it. At first it will work as platform for flowers.
