It appears Yamaha has released a new OS version for the CP1. In the version history it says:

- The CF Grand, S6 Grand, 69Wr, and 77Wr preset Voices have been newly organized for greater dynamic and expressive response by improving the Voice tunings.

Interesting. I always thought the CP1 was one of the most expressive DPs.

- A new Damper Resonance Type parameter has been added to the Utility screen in order to facilitate changing the type of string resonance.

If this cures the echoy string resonance then I'm definitely interested!

Anyone with a CP1 who could try the update and report back?

cheers,
Joachim

Sounds interesting, particularly the new sympathetic resonance option!

Perhaps we could persuade voxpops to try installing this on his Numa. smile

What - and risk starting a pandemic? grin

On the other hand, it might be interesting. If those CP1 Rhodes patches could deposit a little of their DNA...

From the accompanying documentation:

Damper Resonance Types

TYPE 1: The sound of string resonance, which occurs in an acoustic piano when the damper pedal is pressed down, will be full and rich. This type of resonance was introduced with firmware version 1.01.

TYPE 2: The string resonance will sound more natural. This is a new type of resonance sound added with firmware version 1.10.

Well, everyone who bought a CP1 last year seems to have "upgraded" to an AvantGrand or something else... frown

Yamaha simultaneously calling this "damper resonance" and "string resonance" is very confusing. To me these are two different things.

Interesting. I wonder if the CP5 will receive an update. I thought it had the same basic CF-III and S6 samples onboard.

I believe it does have the same samples, but not all the same processing and other electronics. So... maybe yes, maybe no...
