Hi!

While trying to play around with TADutchman presets on the MP6, I came across something strange. I had people coming over so I didn't have the time to go through it further but I'll test it out again.

This is the Mellow Grand, and from my limited test this happens clearly with String Resonance pushed to 9-10. From what I gathered the other resonance/key off parameters didn't matter, and I didn't test the other sounds. It seems to happen on chords, mainly major thirds/minor sixth more easily, but it probably does it on others, I just couldn't test-drive it more...

Does this replicates on other MP6 boards or is it some fault in mine?

Interesting. It sounds to me like the string resonance algorithm thinks one or more keys are down when they aren't.

What the OP fails to say is whether other notes were depressed during the test. It may be simply the exaggeration of the normal sympathetic resonance effect, which on the MP6 also includes the resonance of adjacent notes (a semitone above or below the played note - there's a technical term for this, which escapes me). I'm assuming that the resonant note was depressed sufficiently for it to ring in this way. I cannot get my MP6 to trigger its resonance unless a harmonically related note is depressed.

HOWEVER, I have noticed that very occasionally the resonance fails to trigger on the first attempt - which is definitely a small software bug.

No other notes were depressed, although I can't reproduce the bug today... ho well, it's probably better that way. I did try to silently depress a note and the exaggerated resonance did sound the same as what happened yesterday, so it may be some sort of ghosting? A note I played at some point which stayed depressed?

Sorry for the annoyance, let's hope it won't happen again smile

To pass the DPBSD silent replay test, a DP requires more complex tracking of active notes. Not sure if the latest MP6 firmware supports silent replay, but if it does perhaps the active note tracking algorithm is getting confused?

Another thought: perhaps this is an emulation of sympathetic resonance of the undamped highest notes on a real piano?
