Hi all,

I am trying to connect a Yamaha P-140 digital piano to a mixer. I find the AUX output levels to be quite low. On my mixer, there are +4/-10 buttons on the stereo channels, and the -10 dBV setting is not enough. Compared to other sources like computer line out, CD player (even mobile phone!) the piano is a whisper!

The piano's outputs are called AUX and have RCA connectors. The level is fixed (the volume slider on the piano does not change the volume on the AUX output).

I guess it is nice to have some headroom so that the connected equipment doesn't clip, but even if I hit the keys very hard, I'm not even near.

I have heard talk about a test mode on some other Yamaha P series piano. It is supposed to emit a 1 KHz tone at a specific level or something like that. Does anyone know anything about this? Can I connect a 1 kOhm load and an oscilloscope and check if they work as intended?

Thanks in advance!

Does you mixer have inputs for a dynamic microphone? That should fix the problem.

The p155 replaced the P140 and it seems Yamaha fixed the problem. My P155 has 1/4 phone jacks with normal line level. That does not help you.

I am not sure if this might help you but on my Yamaha Tyros 4 this is a small knob on the back that adjusts the sound level output thru the AUX jacks independant of the Master Volume Control

I do not know if your P-140 has this knob

Yes, the mixers has mono inputs with gain control. That solves my problem, but I am wasting two mono channels when I could have used one stereo.

No, the P-140 does not have this knob on the back, that would have been perfect. Maybe I shold install one myself. If someone has the schematics for the P-140, feel free to send me a copy! :-)

Thanks!
