Piano noise after key release

Hi, techs,
I have a piano (Schuerman baby grand, 25 years old) with beautiful tones. But it generates some click noise after a key released. This happens to all the keys. It is really kind of annoying to hear the noise.
In the beginning, I thought there was something down there inside the piano. But after taking out the whole action parts, I did not find anything. The problem is definitely not from the dampers. I suspect it is from the butt felts or back rail cloth. Is there anyway I can identify and fix the problem easily?
Thanks in advance.
Kai

Hi Kai, and welcome to the Piano World Forums!
If I depress and release the key on my pianos very slowly, I can hear a slight clicking sound, as you describe; but it is not an issue when I play normally. I think it is normal to an extent on all acoustic pianos, though the degrees of "clicking" may vary.
However, with that said, chances are, it can be improved (to be made somewhat quieter) with a good action regulation and lubrication. You will need a piano tech to do that for you. I doubt the noise can eliminated totally, but I could be worng.
Good luck!
Rick

Noises upon key returns are not uncommon, it is a frequently asked question. There has been quite a lot written about this in the past all of this you can find in the archives. If you are not a technician, it may be difficult or impossible for you to find the problem and fix it yourself. Grand pianos have no hammer butts or butt felts..... When was your piano last tuned? If it has been close to a year ago or longer, it is probably time to get it tuned. The tuner/technician can go over your concerns with you and can find a solution when he is directly at the piano. Best of luck.

Hi Kaisun,
I doubt the problem has anything to do with the hammer-rest rail and its felt. If the noise comes right after the key has been released; it is likely to be (hard-knuckles). When the knuckle resets after let-off, it is knocking on the lever creating the sound you described.
Regards,
