Hello :-)

I'm currently in the process of learning to play the piano and hope to get your advice on how I can find material on how to:

1. Train my rhythm skills so that I can easier shift from 1/4 to 1/8 to 1/32 etc. while playing a piece of music. Maybe one of you know of an intuitive/accessible source for exercises (book + cd, internet website incl. audio examples, or the like)?

2. Train my ear listening skills, i.e. listen to a piece of music and put it into notes. Preferably with examples (I'm thinking that maybe it's simply to listen to a piece of music and then put it into notes ;-) - but maybe there's a "structure" to learn?)

Thanks for reading and maybe replying ;-)

Jesper

I recommend going on youtube and just watching/listening to some videos. There has to be hundreds of people teaching subdivisions. You can hear them doing it and hopefully it will help you.
I would also learn how to count the different subdivisions correctly.

For example: quater notes 1 2 3 4, eighth notes 1+ 2+ 3+ 4+,
sixteen notes 1e+u 2e+u 3e+u 4e+u,

etc. etc.

Hi Steve,

Didn't see your reply until now ... but thanks for the suggestion. Just checked out youtube and having gone over some videos I have chosen to download a book on rhythm with sound examples from

www.patternpiano.com

It's called "how to read musical rhythm like a Genius" - sounds attractive ;-)

Thanks again,

Jesper
