Hello, Yamaha has an Avantgrand do you think they would ever have a Avandgrand using a 9 ft Bosendorfer? Thanks Steve

No, because it is not branded "Yamaha", although Bösendorfer is a subsidiary of Yamaha. But if Bösendorfer does create something like the AvantGrand, but using Bösendorfer design and sound sampling (if it will happen we don't know, of course) it could be a possibility, with maybe a nine foot Bösendorfer adapted action or something.

What would the point be?

1. Why would you want a 9' digital piano.
2. If you actually wanted a 9' digital, why would you want it to be a Boesendorfer (aka expensive) case, when you're just going to stuff it with electronics?

My gut feeling would be that 1bigbird is thinking about a Hybrid piano with Bösendorfer 290 sound sampling, with a Bösendorfer 290 action, in a reasonable digital grand-sized case. ???

I see where you are coming from, 1bigbird.
I find it very annoying that digital pianos only have 1 real piano sound. Ideally, I would want an AvantGrand to have a Yamaha concert grand, Yamaha's best upright, a Bosendorfer, and preferably another top-quality piano or two (Fazioli perhaps?).

A feature of an electric piano is that the tone and tuning can be changed at the press of a button, but Yamaha doesn't seem to utilize this feature. Maybe someone with the right software and a high-quality keyboard can get additional sound samples and work around this. But that is not a mainstream solution by any stretch of the imagination.

I think that teh bigger names would not allow Yamaha to use their brand name or sound samples.

Bosendorfer actually made a prototype of what Rotom described, and pictures are linked on another thread here -- IIRC, it was an upright-sized case. They decided not to go forward with it.

Maxtor, there are limited menus to change piano sound and tunings on the AG line, but they don't go nearly as far as what you propose in your first paragraph.

Hi ClsscLib,

You are absolutely right. I played one of the prototypes and the entire system was gorgeous. The plan that was talked about when I visited Vienna in 2008 was to incorporate the CEUS technology into the piano, making it a tremendous digital instrument.

Bosendorfer decided that this was not where they wanted to put their energy, but there are a few of these instruments out there somewhere...

I wonder who owns them?? BoseEric perhaps??

You are right on. Yamaha is alittle on the high pitch sound where Bosendorfer might have a richer sound. Thanks again for the reply. Steve

I see. Well I will want to make you comfortable if you ever visit Cunningham Piano Company so please call ahead.

We will unplug the coffee maker and turn off the lights for you. And I am just curious Eric, how has your coal fired laptop been running?? Have you thought about converting to natural gas? wink

There's one YouTube video that shows someone playing the CEUSmaster

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSzvwZR-kS0

(And I agree with BoseEric. Pianos aren't toasters. They shouldn't plug in)

That recording sounds pretty good on my computer. Granted, she's not playing Chopin. Still, I'd love to hear that thang in person.

Rich, I'm against fossil fuel use as well. I have a small generator attached to my bicycle. It's noisy but my neighbors like it better than my previous "made in Wisconsin" methane powered generator.

I have yet to run across a "Silent Piano" with a digital sampling that sounds better than its acoustic play. A couple of speakers can not duplicate the full spectrum sound produced by a soundboard.

But I very much like the hybrid pianos. And I'm a big fan of the Disklavier systems. All the bells and whistles add up to an amazing instrument.
