HI! There is a Yamaha G3 with serial # 79041 for sale in my area for $2500. It has some cosemtic flaws but they are fairly minor. We currently have a Baldwin Acrsonic Console that my 12 year old loves and our tuner says is a good piano so we were not actively looking. He is a serious player and I love when he gets to play on his teachers grand. The owner told me she bought it about 15 years ago from someone in another state that sells pianos but does not have a storefront. She thought it was new but was unsure. She has not been playing it and it needs tuning. It could be a gray market piano. Is that a bad thing? Also,it bothers me that it only has two pedals. Is that a concern? I have not even looked at it yet but wanted to see if it was worth investigating. Thanks for your help.

You shouldnt be concerned about the two pedals. The Sostenuto pedal is not used much, and not much repertoire needs it, and the pieces that do are all very advanced.

It could be gray market. And it seems quite old. But the price is good, so if I were you, I'd think it's worth a bit of a look since it is nearby. And take a technician with you to check it if you are interested, G3's are nice pianos. And take your son as well, of course smile

Good luck!

If that's the real serial number, it would place the piano at 1928, but that's unlikely. It is either not a Yamaha, or you have the number wrong. If you add another 0 to the number, it is 1968, still questionable.

Take care,

Steve

No, it would have been manufactured sometime just after 1957, not 1928. If it was manufactured in 1928, the SN would be four digit. Sorry, Steve.
