I started to put my studio together again it has been down since march
I have been playing practicing learning new songs from youtube and rhapsody
using just these little tiny speakers i bought from apple you probably have seen them from ihome

well I have managed to learn my songs from youtube but it is very very hard often you have to hold the little speakers up to your ear just to accurately hear the bass and even then you still end up missing things

well i have just started putting the studio together
and i have a bose system for computer audio play back
a program called hear which is an audio enhancer

i have resolve monitors and a kc 550 keyboard amplifier

now when I play music I hear ever single instrument to be honest the bose sounds clearer without the audio enhancer

so I have found a new way to learn my hymns and I am sure you could do it iwith any music

I play a recording of the hymns done by a band and small choir

then I play along using the hymn book as a guide I find I can hear where my parts are and I feel this is a great way to grow my musiican ship both reading and arranging as well as hearing

bose definitely has helped me to learn music I dont even reach for headphones anymore.

you are on a roll
today smile

specifically what I am suggesting is a way to practice from the written page as a hymn player I dont often play with a written score and listen to a recording at the same time

this may be something a jazz player does often with a lead sheet
but the concept never struck me to do it with hymns or even with a classical piece

playing along with an orchestra

there is something interesting about seeing what you are playing and hearing what other instruments are doing around you while you play this written sheet
which now takes on a different role it becomes a guide
and eventually you will find yourself adding things to the arrangement

so I was referring to a person figuruing out what notes to play from a written score with more than their eyes

most clasicaly trained musiciains wont deviate from the written notes they will color them or onrment them but not add cadenzas or other such things

thanks robart keep me on my toes
I am a big picture person and I dont often explain my concepts or thoughts precisely enough

Sounds like you have developed a system that works well for you so keep playing this way and it will continue to sound expressive and impress your audiences.

I have found the best results using my fingers. YMMV
