Hi Everyone,

Part II of the interview with 1980 Chopin competition winner, Dang Thai Son, is up. Here, he talks about Avdeeva, Ingolf Wunder, Horowitz, etc.

Thanks for reading, and have a safe and wonderful holiday smile

Could you please ask these guys (all the famous pianists that you interview) what they think of Bozhanov? To me, he is the most exciting pianist currently in the competition circuit.

I attended a concert recently in which Bozhanov played Chopin's E minor Concerto (on Steinway, not Yamaha as in the Chopin Competition) with high expectations, but have to say I was a bit disappointed. I've heard greater insights, finesse, tonal variety and variety of articulation from the likes of Lang Lang, Zimerman, Yundi etc.

I thought the reference to the actual jury scores at the competition was interesting and I promptly looked it up. Nelson Freire and Martha Argerich's scores were most interesting (to me).

She gave 1 (highest) to Trifonov and Avdeeva and 2 to Bozhanov. SHe rated worse both French pianists (Dumont and Tysman). Neslon chose Trifonov as 1 and Bozhanov and Avdeeva as 2. Philippe Entremont could not stand Bozhanov.

The final jury ranking can be found by clicking at the bottom of this page.

Sure thing. He's certainly an interesting one among the new crop of pianists.
