I'm looking at the IMSLP edition now and notice a lot of differences in the middle section. At the very beginning of the Largo, there's a little grace note before the 1st note. Then, instead of trills, they're all mordents. And Bar 72 is definitely different.
What does IMSLP mean, anyway? Why are there so many differences in that manuscript compared to mine?
I just listened to Horowitz again. The most notable difference is in bar 77. LOTS more notes! It seemed as if he had added those turns! He probably didn't. If you're referring to that edition by Karl Klindworth I mentioned, you'll find lots of differences - in the outer sections also. That's the kind of editor he was, and is a reason his editions are really just of historical interest nowadays. He overedited - generally didn't add or change notes, but very frequently overlaid his own dynamics and articulations on the composer's music (AS IF he had better ideas!). There are quite a number of editions available at IMSLP (which stands for International Music Score Library Project). The website's been around for several years, and aims to offer (eventually) for download all available scores of music with no copyright restrictions. The home page is a good introduction: http://imslp.org/wiki/Main_Page

Thanks so much. I find the IMSLP edition fascinating since there are so many differences. Since I play the "trills" in the middle section as mordents anyway, it's good to see actual mordents on that edition. The editor in mine states that they're supposed to be trills and not mordents as found in some editions but when I watched Paul Barton in the Piano Sage website, he said three different trills were acceptable and the mordent was the simplest. Since I'm not a good pianist, I chose the easiest! Thanks for all your help. You've been great! I wish you a very happy and healthy new year and may all that's good come to you.
