the G sounds good (it's a kosher 11th), the CE is a 3rd

lol, kosher 11th is good enough for me! smile

I'll stick to joi 2 as planned. Just had another look at those voicings. Some will be two-handers for me anyway. and I suppose even when comping, one is supposed to do fills and stuff? I think I'll not put myself under pressure to be 'band-ready' in the next year, but just stick to the plan and be patient.

dave, isn't it the middle of the night for you?

Hello every one, I am new here, and hope you don't mind my thoughts - I also like 'So What' chords, and I believe that their beauty comes from the intervals' ratios within - and I just noticed that the notes actually describe a pentatonic scale, e.g., Emin: (E) A-D-G-B; the pentatonic scale would be G-A-B-D-E-G; and then Dmin: (D) G-C-F-A; (F Pent major, F-G-A-C-D-F); ?

Welcome Miss Jones. I can't believe there's someone else on my side of the world with an even earlier time zone than me.

I don't know pentatonic scales. I think it's great that you can hear them that way.
Knotty introduced So What chords to me. I think of them as groups of 4ths plus a maj 3rd.

Thanks 10 ! I didn't know the black notes on the piano corresponded with the pentatonic. Nor that Swing Low was pentatonic, I hear that tune all the time when I go to the rugby.

ah, black note bliss!

easy improvising for the uninitiated. you play an f# maj chrod down low, 2 hands, give it some rhythm. stick sustain on. ask partnrer to play any phrase of black notes in treble.

instant success!

Hey MissJones,

Welcome to the thread. Miss Jones is my tune this month. That bridge is quite a piece of work!

happy new year to eveyone here!

i imagine all our gigging musicians will be out gigging tonight, or at least, having a good time.

i am currently up to light duties with the troublesome rh, and am wondering, knotty, when you've recovered from whatever revelry you get up to, what the next progression is for improv? i've done maj-min in 6 keys (not to mention 2-5-1 in all major keys). i seem to recall custard adding a flat somewhere.

i think i've worked out what i was missing comping-wise, and what to do about it. just something so basic and trivial, yet it doesn't come easily to me. glad to explain, when the wine wears off. smile

No gig over here. Chose the party instead. Great one last night though.

10,
Do this in 6 keys: C F G Bb Ab Eb
Cmaj7 | C7 | Fmaj7 | F-6 | CMaj7 | CMaj7

Work out the scales and arpeggios until you can hear all very good
For scale, you can use C maj, then Fmaj, F melodic minor, then back to Cmaj.

Squeeze that lemon juice!!

You got a couple more progressions then onto tunes. You know nothing can stop you now, right?

Hey 10, It sounds good to me, too.

Well, I've managed to come out of the rain with Precipitation. I managed to get it up to a challenge speed of 92 with only two blatant errors. (My cousin tells me any fewer would be an insult to the Creator).

Precipitation

My next step will be a yeoman's effort at singing it.
