#1815114 - 12/30/11 11:22 AM Would the new Roland F120 or RP301 be worth waiting for?

Before I spend more than I need to, I wanted to ask opinions about the new Roland F120 (same as RP301 in different cabinet, I believe) due to be announced at the piano trade show in the USA on Jan. 19th (I called Roland and asked, but they wouldn't give much info.) I assume that they will be in my price range (as the current F110 is), but with, hopefully, a better action and newest "supernatural" sound system. What kind of action will it have? Will it be the same as the PHAII? Will the sound be as good as on the HP302 (which is over our budget, unfortunately.)Will it have any more features above and beyond the current F110/RP201? I want to know if it is worth waiting a month or so for (to save me from either paying more than I should, or "settling" for less than my daughter really wants/needs.
She did try the F110 and did not care for the action--thought it was too light. She did like all the sounds, though. I liked the price!
Thanks! (And thanks to Kawai James for tipping us off that there was an updated F120 coming out!)

If they put in a better action than the toy-like F110 you can bet they won't be selling at an F110-like price point!

in Europe, F120/RP301 is positioned at same price than F110/RP201.

F120 and RP301 differ only by their console style (modern / classic).

Yes, I think they are great upgrade, supernatural + Ivory Feel G are both better sound / action than previous generation.

But while action is quite good in term of "quality", it seems not very responsive to me...

Yes, I agree.

The previous generation RP-201/F-110 models were let down by their weak keyboard action and not-so-great piano sound.

By all accounts, Roland have improved this important points considerably, making the new RP-301/F-120 instruments a very attractive entry-level option.

However, from other threads, I note that you are rather keen on purchasing an instrument with lots of extra features. I believe the improved Roland offer a good piano sound and keyboard action, but not a great deal more.

James

Where does that make the last generation HP stand against the RP?
What's better; the HP203 or RP 301?

If the extra features are the same as the F110/RP201, it has over 300 voices (though, granted some of them aren't very useful for musicicans (dogs barking, explosions, etc.), and some drum rhythms! It has layering and split keyboard features, too. I'm not sure about USB, though.

Thanks for all your help--please see my new thread question: "Should I take a good deal on a new Roland FP-7 (not f)"...or wait for the new F120?
