Boogie Woogie Blues Piano Stomp!

[Linked Image]

The Palladium’s third annual Boogie Woogie/Blues Piano Stomp returns with an exciting new lineup of artists. The show features two grand pianos, four great pianists, doing solo turns and coming together for a rockin’ jam session to close out the show.

This year’s lineup features:

Craig Brenner
[Linked Image]

Called "a fine and funky pianist" by Living Blues Magazine, Craig Brenner has been voted "Best Musician" in Bloomington, Indiana numerous times, and his band Craig & the Crawdads has been chosen "Best Band." He has recorded 5 albums, each including his own compositions, and has appeared with Bo Diddley, Buckwheat Zydeco, Matt "Guitar" Murphy and Duke Robillard, among others.

Bob Seeley

[Linked Image]

The 83-year-old boogie woogie master. A student of the legendary Meade Lux Lewis. Seeley also played piano with Art Tatum and Eubie Blake and was a regular accompanist for Sippie Wallace. Seeley’s playing spans ragtime, stride, blues and boogie woogie. He is in the Boogie Woogie Piano Hall of Fame.
(trust me, the chops this guy has are nuts! (Frank B.) )

Here is a preview of Bob's playing...

Michael Kaeshammer

[Linked Image]

This German born, Canadian bred 35-year-old singer, songwriter, incendiary pianist and showman dazzles audiences around the world with his fiery piano chops. Trained in classical piano, he fell in love with Boogie Woogie at a young age. Toronto-based Kaeshammer (pronounced case-hammer) has 7 album releases and is featured in the December 2011 issue of Downbeat Magazine.

Michael tears it up on Sweet Georgia Brown, this guy uses ALL of the piano to play his pieces!

Liz Pennock & Dr. Blues
[Linked Image]

The popular Tampa Bay duo also performed extensively with legendary Blues artist Diamond Teeth Mary McClain, and throughout the world appearing with artists including John Hammond, Carey Bell, North Mississippi All-Stars, Saffire: The Uppity Blues Women, Big Bill Morganfield, Roy Book Binder, Bob Margolin, Pinetop Perkins and Leon Russell, and joined the likes of Albert Ammons, Johnnie Johnson (Chuck Berry's piano player), and Pinetop Perkins when in 2008 they were inducted into the Boogie Woogie Piano Hall Of Fame.

This is a Show Not to Be Missed!

Kathy and I caught the show last year, and the minute we heard it was coming back (with two of the original acts and two new ones) we immediately signed up.

Which means we will be there working the show in our white shirts and black pants (not to be confused with those folks wandering the streets of Clearwater).

Make the time to catch this show, you will be glad you did!

At the Palladium Theater in downtown St. Petersburg, FL.
(the end of January is the perfect time to visit "the sunshine state if you aren't from around here").

Tickets:
8 p.m., $22, $26 day of show

The Palladium Theater at St. Petersburg College

253 Fifth Avenue North

St. Petersburg, FL 33708

(727) 302-6862
(when you call for tickets, please mention you saw it on Piano World)

Whether in Hough Hall with its world class sound system, or kicking back in our Side Door, come see why the historic Palladium Theater is consistently ranked as one of Tampa Bay’s best, most intimate, affordable venues.

Just a short walk from the Vinoy and downtown St. Petersburg’s waterfront, the Palladium is part of what makes Tampa Bay great!

Wow, I wish I could attend, Frank!

I absolutely love Boogie-Woogie!! I wrote a special boogie arangement called "Boogielichious", but I won't post it here... I don't want to be put to shame by those super-boogie-pros!! laugh

Take care,

Rick

I wish you could make it down too Rick.

Last year Bob Seeley went on last, I could see why, nobody wanted to have to follow him :-) Not only can he burn up the keyboard, but he's also a fun entertainer.
He's a great example of how music can help keep you young :-)

The show is easily worth twice what the Palladium charges, and the building itself is an attraction (beautiful).

Thanks Les, we will enjoy.

Bob is certainly a character. You can tell he's been at this a long time, very relaxed on stage and in total command of the piano and the audience.

His "I Don't Care What Mamma Says" routine is a classic and a great vehicle for showing off his multiple talents.

My left hand and wrist get sore just watching him :-)

I have no doubt the others in this show can hold their own.
Liz and Dr. Blues are well known and loved locally, and I can't wait to hear/see the other two.

You sure you wouldn't like to drive down to the tropical Florida area for a night of great music? laugh

One word ....

AMAZING!

If you like your piano lively and your pianist virtuoso, you should have been there tonight.

Everyone was incredible, but Michael, the youngest one there, was above and beyond.

I'll post some clips and more details in the next day or two. Have to get some sleep now, we are working the Palladium again tomorrow (art show this time).
