I've never bought a brand new piano, but I have read other threads here on PW stating that the new piano they bought did not come with any warranty documents (card) other than a bill of sale. That doesn't mean that some buyers did not receive a warranty certificate or card.
I would think that the date of sale or initiation of the warranty period (starting the clock) would have to be documented in some way. Maybe it is the authorized dealer’s responsibility to register the warranty?
Personally, I don't put a lot of stock in new piano warranties... it may well be a good selling point, but it seems to me that most things that go wrong with a new piano are prep/adjustment related, which is not covered under the manufacturers warranty anyway. The major, catastrophic failures that are covered under the warranty rarely ever happen... as far as I can tell.
In my view, the new piano warranty is only as good as the reputation of the dealer you bought the piano from anyway. Although, I have read were professional piano technicians have come in and helped owners with warranty related issues. From what I have read, it is really difficult and frustrating for a new piano owner to try to deal with a manufacturer themselves regarding a warranty issue, when the dealer is no longer a conduit.

Well, there are dealer warranties (usually for used pianos) for which that would be true; there is no other recourse. A new piano is under warranty from the maker, and that is a different story. There are different kinds of manufacturer warranties, of greater and lesser value, but in any case it is a legally binding contract with written, stated terms. I would think this document should be provided with a new piano--- it was with mine--- but the most important document is the invoice, because it proves the essential warranty term which identifies the seller as an authorized representative of the manufacturer, along with identifiers such as the model, serial number, and date of sale. The date of sale is important because it is the 'birthday' of the piano, as far as the warranty goes, and the warranty's term runs from that date.
The authorized seller normally registers the sale with the manufacturer. The 'warranty card' is essentially a marketing tool, as far as I can tell. Sending it in may help you if your warranty is for something like an electric razor, but an authorized piano reseller is different than buying something from a WalMart.
Part of the reseller's contract and responsibility is to assist the buyer with warranty claims. But, if a buyer moves from the original service area or the seller goes out of business, the contract with the maker is still in force for its full term. And yes, a professional piano technician can help the customer by dealing directly with the manufacturer to resolve warranty service matters. Who else would? Skilled professional help is absolutely necessary. For very serious claims, the maker may send their own techs to examine the case and determine the story. Not every problem is a manufacturing error.
Still, to a great extent, and in most cases, the seller's reputation and good name for customer service, and their association with the maker, is what will help the customer the most when they are having a problem with their piano, whatever it is. Most buyers probably don't have the advantage that PW members enjoy to some extent, of knowing who's who in the business, so the maker's name and the local dealer's name is what they have to go with.

When our piano was delivered last month, it has a warranty card which the dealer has already filled out with our information. At delivery he confirmed that the info was correct and then he actually sent in the card on our behalf.
According to his explanation, he (the dealer) will perform any warranty support that is required but the piano must be registered to start the 10-year "clock" on the warranty and assure that he can order parts under warranty during that period if needed. It will also assure that if for any reason he was not available we could request warranty coverage direct from the manufacturer.

Usually the dealer contacts the manufacture. Keep your bill of sale and proof of payment.
