Sometimes I miss Yorkshire, and the folk.. "she is a simple country lass, she sits in the cabbages and peas" of course in wales, "she is a simple country lass she sits in the cabbages and leaks" One is a choice the other is a continence issue.

Wayne how can you see 8 pages at a time? Have you got wide angled vision? lol.
Or, a strange viewfinder attatchment? Stew and dumplings will cure anything, especially boredom, if you ever feel a bit down, out with the Atora.. love it.. and you can add things to the dumpling mix like garlic or herbs to make em even tastier!! yum.

Off to find some music to post....

Taylor's of Harrogate Imperial Gunpowder green tea. With Dundee cake. Though I forgot to put almonds on the top, as is traditional.

Amazing that Tallis was already dead by 1600. Here is his motet in eight parts Spem in Alium.

Here's a flashmob doing Spem In Alium in the British Museum earlier this year.

it,s better without the almonds, they just drop off into your tea when your dunking the cake anyways... then, instead of having the lovely thick cakey tea at the end of the brew, you get chokey almonds instead...

I love getting a pudding bowl, putting a packet of jaffa cakes in, pouring tea over and eating with a spoon.... sort of warm jaffa cake porridge..yum.

If anybody ever wants an online jaffa cake eating competition, i would be so up for it.. web cams on, tea at the ready... and a side bet to make it interesting and to help pay for the rennies.

Enjoyed watching this Tortelier masterclass from 1987 the other day. What an inspiration it must be to be taught by someone like this, I think I would have worshipped him.
I love the expression he makes at 5.20 when the pianist plays the wrong chord.
The last few pages of this Dvorak cello concerto has the power to literally make my heart ache when it's played well.

There is something in the back of my mind telling me i used to watch the masterclasses on UK telivision years ago, I hope I am remembering correctly, if not, it was something very similar..
What an excellent and interesting post, thank you, I love the cello, probably the most out of the string instruments.

AimeeO , folk have noticed your abscence, wherefore be you?
Three pages have gone without any of your excellent postings.....
You are being missed and folk are mentioning Voodoo to explain your elsewhereness!!

My favourite recording of the Elgar cello concerto, played by Tortellier.

Looks a bit like Westminster Abbey. Do you know where it is?

No Eglantine, I saw a program this last week on Rostropovich, and it showed that, which is what reminded me, but I cannot remember, but it just looks like acoustic perfection!

which reminds me, I saw another program this week, that mentioned that the medieval cathedral builders knew something very clever about acoustics, which we have yet to work out how they knew..quite interesting.

hey thats odd, my computor clock says 1.24 ( the hour went back last night) but it is showing your last post here ( the one above) as 2.19 a.m.

??

Hey! Sorry! Computer issues have kept me away from you all. It probably was some sort of voodoo - I'm sure I did something to someone. And I'm sure the voodoo will come back around - I was tormenting New Orleans Saints(football) fans on their embarrassing loss today, which is equivalent to insulting one's mother.

Lots of voodoo in the air 'round here anyway. There was the New Orleans Voodoo fest over the last 3 days (which is a music fest). I did not go, as the thought of crowds and port-a-lets make my head hurt. Although I would have loved to see X, Social Distortion, Soundgarden, and the Raconteurs.

I really liked the Argerich post, and the Four Seasons with Yuja Wang in it. Yuja videos
are rather addicting.

Someone mentioned shallots. We too had shallots this week in a wine-merchant sauce with steak. The recipe was in Jacques Pepin's new cookbook and it was soooooo good.

Here's a clip of Martha Argerich playing the end of Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Concerto no. 3. I always like watching it, and it makes me very afraid of her.

Eglantine, no not specially for wales, but the lads started out as "dirty sanchez" and are all from the valleys, they then made a film and got invited on to many shows..

I posted a "mild" link of some of their antics... If you thought that was mildly amusing check this... ( I dare not post the video) link.....

The pain men again..... This time showing how women can "defend themselves in adverse situations on the street"
