So what DPs are people buying?

When you have a sorted spreadsheet of this thread (see a few posts up) you can query it for info such as this:

Code:
 63 Casio
  1 Gem
102 Kawai
  8 Korg
  1 M-Audio
  5 Nord
 92 Roland
170 Yamaha

I guess I'm a bit surprised that Kawai > Roland (due to more limited Kawai availability).

And also that Casio is in 4th place, I would have thought higher.

But Yamaha dominating is what I would have predicted (for various reasons).

Is this a general measure of the sales by each company?
Or is it an expression of the preferences of Piano World members?
Or is it representative of people's willingness to share?

Total sales by company in this thread. Beyond that who can say? It might stimulate some interesting conversation though.

Interesting. Do you have at your fingertips the median price paid for each brand? Some of Yamaha's dominant position is surely due to its diverse product line, covering all imaginable price points.

No, too many different currencies for me to do that easily. But the makes and models are grouped in the sorted spreadsheet, which makes getting a feel for the price of a single model pretty straightforward.

Here's some more info, the top selling models (4 or more units) from the top four manufacturers:

Code:
	Yamaha
25	CLP340
22	P155
9	YDP160
7	CLP330
7	P95
6	CLP320
5	CP33
5	P85
4	CLP370
4	CP5
4	YDP161

	Kawai
27	CA63
10	CA93
11	CN33
7	MP10
6	CN23
6	ES6
4	MP6

	Roland
16	FP7F
12	HP307
8	HP207
7	RD700NX
6	FP4
6	RD700GX
6	VPIANO
5	HP305
4	DP990

	Casio
22	PX330
12	PX130
5	AP620

Hmm. I expected more RD700NX (and MP10) users. I guess those that have them are more active than average.

Hmm... Does that mean that the stage pianos are less fun to play? wink

I think stage pianos are just more daunting to the general DP buyer. Gotta get a stand, probably at least some kind of headphones, and for many you've got to cobble together a music rest (!).

... and ... making a nice dust cover for it... smile

Stage pianos are not pushed by piano dealerships, and they win in terms of features/price. Both of those factors contribute to stage piano owners being a little more `in the know' on average than console piano owners at the time of their purchase decision. In other words, stage pianos are likely to be the choice of the hard-core. That's my take, anyway.

By the way, one idea for a dust cover is what I used: solid, smooth, black self liner.

link

It is naturally kind of heavy and conforms the right amount and is very resistant to sliding off. It will quietly roll back off the keys without falling off if you want, doesn't wrinkle, and imparts some impact/scratch protection as well.

The only problem is that it comes in 4 foot by 20 inch rolls, which is just right for width but not long enough, so I had to sew two together.

Anyone annoyed with the lack of dust cover might consider this. Nothing worse than a dust cover that's always slipping off or is noisy or awkward.

You did a fantastic job, it would be really nice if someone spent the time to clean the numbers (in the price column) from all the $, (, - and other letters so that the list could be sorted by price or one could get averages and medians calculated. If this post was made as a form from the start where a user just feeds in text or numbers in preset fields with preset datatypes then it would have been very easy and maybe an online database would have been generated very easily form that. We still have the data but we need to do some work.

Again, great job.

You did a GREAT JOB, I see that you did a cool job converting all currencies in the prices column to USD in an additional column, given that there are more than 600 entries in this spreadsheet I assume that you used a formula to do this. If so, do you have a copy where the original prices are recognized as just numbers?
