Elected to ‘Marquis Who's Who’ 2004-2012
Ken Mahood began his study of piano at age 5 and organ at age 10, continuing his studies through his college years. He received his B.S. in music education from the King’s College (1969). While there, he was one of only two students selected for study with protégé of Artur Rubenstein, Dino Kartsonakis. After graduating, Ken enrolled in the graduate program at Manhattan School of Music in composition (MM, 1972) While in New York, Ken had the privilege of studying music composition with the late noted American composer, Aaron Copland.
In 1982, Mahood was awarded a Ph.D. in performance music from Metropolitan College of London (UK) (1982), which was to be the first of a total of three earned doctorate degrees. Dr. Mahood also holds a Ph.D. in music theory from Concordia College and University and most recently, Doctor of Education (Ed.D)
Dr. Mahood has a unique understanding of church music and operation of evangelical music ministries. He began playing piano and organ in church at 10 years of age and accepted his first position of Minister of Music at age 17. Since that time, he has been intensely involved with church music as well as consultant to various piano and organ manufacturers including Steinway pianos and Rodger’s Organ. Additionally, Ken has and presented seminars on electronic music in the evangelical church.
In the area of performance, he has appeared numerous times over Television and radio, and has performed before U.S.. President George Bush and Vice President Nelson Rockefeller as well as with entertainers such as Pat Boone and Andy Williams. Ken was one of the only concert artists to be chosen as a “Pianist in Residence” in the United States, this was during his tenure with Nelson Rockefeller both as Governor of the State of New York and then as Vice President .
Returning to his love for Gospel music in 1980, Ken began performing in numerous churches as well as with well known evangelists such as Dr. Billy Graham. He has also had the privilege of conducting choirs and orchestras while serving as Director of Music at various churches. After completing his 25th year at the large Christian Fellowship Church in Virginia as pianist and associate Director of Music, Ken accepted a faculty position at Northern Virginia Community College as well as enlarging his own focus on private students.
For his work in the development of a new and comprehensive music theory text and workbook series, “Radical Theory”, Dr. Mahood has been consistently elected to the prestigious “Marquis´ Who’s Who” in America” since 2004. Dr. Mahood also has received numerous awards for his work within the field of music and education.
Presently, he continues to accept limited number of both young and adult students and has recently started a successful web-camera learning program for piano students from around the United States.
