Metronome in practical RCM exams?

The technical requirements book specify a tempo for each exercise. Does the adjudicator actually use a metronome in practical exams?

Wouldnt the adjudicator know the range of acceptable tempos by heart? Newbie here, but no professional truly requires a metronome unless its an extremely narrow range of acceptable speed, do they?

Well, I am sure they would know the acceptable range, but likely they are looking for rhythmic accuracy.

You don't need a metronome to judge rhythmic accuracy.

Okay, well, regardless I just want to know if the adjudicator uses one or not.

20 years ago, when I took my RCM practicals in Toronto, I played my scales for the examiner. Just as I completed my scales, I heard the ticking of a metronome. I looked over, and on the examiner's table, a pyramid metronome was ticking away. It didn't bother me. I only heard it when I stopped playing. Presumably, the examiner was checking my tempo.
So there's at least one instance a long time ago when a metronome was used.

I took a pedagogy lesson from one RCM adjudicator who said in exams she DID use an electronic metronome with its volume off, and only it's light flickering.

Yes, I am a piano teacher. Because I am human, I do not have perfect meter. I get pretty close, but not perfect. I use the metronome to measure exactly how close to perfect meter my student's exercises are. Well, I am sure they would know the acceptable range, but likely they are looking for rhythmic accuracy. I actually asked an RCM examiner about this, and she said most of them just know how long a scale should take to play at that level. For example, a 4 octave scale at 120 mm should take.. 8 seconds? Sorry if my math is wrong. At an AR level, they like to see scales under 5 seconds (note that the speeds listed in the RCM syllabus are for a pass -- 60%).

OK. But you are confusing meter and tempo, at the very least. If a composer has marked a composition as MM=x and it is clear that the composer really means EXACTLY that tempo, then most certainly setting a metronome and checking the tempo makes sense. Is that what you mean?
