I just wanted to let you know about a series of books I have produced. Called 'Rock And Read' they are for bass, drums, guitar and keyboard. They feature songs in the styles of classic and contemporary rock bands.
There is accompanying audio for all the tunes, free to download from the site, including play-along mixes with each instrument muted. In fact if you are using the books to run a school rock band and you have no drummer you can play along to a drums only track.
I started my career giving group lessons on keyboards in schools and this is exactly the kind of book I wish I'd had back then.
The emphasis is on reading stave notation and chord charts of the kind used by professional musicians, but made as simple as possible (And no TAB for the guitarists! - evil stuff imo) In terms of playability all the material is at grade 1-2 level, though there are some harder key signatures and higher registers. This is because we wanted to make the tunes sound like something a real band would play rather than a kids exercise.
Volume 1 is available on our website now, with volume 2 coming soon. We also have plans for a book of tunes for 4 keyboards, with tunes in contemporary pop styles.
If you're interested our website is
www.rockandread.co.uk - all the audio is free to listen to.
I'd love to hear to hear some feedback from anyone who teaches on keyboards...
