#1827164 - 01/18/12 02:10 PM Old Kawai model numbers

I want to understand the differences between the Kawai KG 6 and KG 7 pianos. The KG6, for example, may be a 6'-9" or a 7'-4" piano, depending on the version ("A", "C", etc.). I'm trying to figure out why Kawai might have marketed them this way? In addition, can anyone tell me what, if any, differences there might be between the older KG6C (7'-4") and the later model KG7D (also 7'-4")? Is this seemingly arbitrary choice of model number common with other manufacturers, or just Kawai? I'm a big fan of pianos of Kawai pianos of this time period, I just want to understand them better. Last, does anyone have experience installing Isaac hammers and/or strings on these larger, older Kawais? Any and all help clearing up these mysteries will be greatly appreciated.

Try this link.

Kawai model designations are one of my pet peeves. Kawai seems determined to keep us all in the dark as to how they decide on model numbers from year to year. I regularly get calls from people asking about a specific Kawai model and I just can't help them as the model numbers have changed so frequently over the years. It's even worse with their upright line.

Hope this helps!

It's good to know I'm not the only one confused. Thanks for the reply. By the way, any experience with the hammers or strings from Ari Isaacs?

Yes, I am familiar, though they are not my 1st choice. I use JD Grandt for strings as he will actually use my specs and Ronsen hammers.
