I am trying to find the value of a 2002 Kawai RX6. At 10 years old, would it be worth 60% of a new RX6, or 60% of what the Kawai originally sold for in 2002? I was just curious what some thoughts are on the value of such an instrument. I got the 60% from Larry Fine's pianobuyer.

It'd probably be 60%off a new RX-6. It would not have the MIII (carbon fibre composite) action, and that may affect your resale. But don't that deter you. Good luck. smile

I was told that it did have Millenium 3 action. Plus, how could I find the SMP of a new RX-6 if they are no longer made? Should I use the SMP for a RX-6BLAK?

The way you can tell is by looking at the action parts. If they are black, it is MIII. The way you could probably find the SMP for a RX6 (not blak) is looking through the older editions of piano buyer. You are looking at buying a RX6, Right?

So do I do 60% of 30-35K
I have found several 2000 RX6 for around 20-22K, and a 2006 RX6 with pianodisc player for $24,800. Would I be out of line offering $22,500?

Offer 20k and see where that takes you. It's in the ballpark.

I believe that a 2002 Kawai RX6 would certainly have some of its action parts made synthetically, but not the full Millenium III action.
However, this should not deter you from looking at this piano. A well maintained, 10 year old RX6 could be just coming into its prime.
Good luck!

Robert.

It would definitely have the ABS action. kawai used ABS in its actions since the nineteen seventies.

For the depreciation schedule in Fine's book, you multiply the percentage by the new price. However, the actual value will vary depending on geographic area, the seller type, and condition, among other things.
