Hi

I do a piano bar where sometimes there's plenty of Brazilian people. I can do Girl from Ipanema, Corcovado, Desafinado, Triste, and the like, but they don't really like it.

Tunes that appear to work well are Chega de Saudade, Berimbau, Voce Abusou, Manha do Carnaval.

For some reasons even though some of these tunes are old too, they work better (maybe they've been covered recently in Brazil by some pop artist?).

Anyway.
I'm looking for other Brazilian tunes to play for these guys, tunes that are up to date, in fashion in 2012 . Any ideas?

Thanks !

Maybe you could look into Hermeto Pascoal's music.

It is really the rhythm, rather than the music itself, that is the defining characteristic. I have heard Toots Thielemans do a cover of God Bless America with a Brazilian beat which I really liked.

Thanks, but ... no ! These guys like certain tunes and not others, they sing along in Brazilian, and slapping a Brazilian beat on any standard is NOT going to cut it !

I'm just wondering what is currently hip in Brazil ... Corcovado is NOT hip any more, that's for sure. What is ?
