Roland's pricing structure seems a bit odd to me.
The specs of the LX-15 and HP507 seem to be identical but the price for the former is £4249 and £2399 for the latter (including Great Britain's eyewateringly high 20% VAT (sales tax))

That seems a lot for a nicer cabinet but I have to say on the basis of what I have heard on Youtube between the LX-15 sounds significantly more of a step forward than the 507. Curious.

Beethoven this time + heckler / salesman.

The HP503 looks like good value at £1395. It seems to be an FP7-F in console form with extra voices, three pedals and the soundboard modelling feature. But no session partner, looper or mic harmony.

Yes at that price it looks on paper like strong competition for the Kawai CN33.

What, I'm not allowed to make a 2 line reply to something that needed correcting anymore?

You can't keep forums on totally on topic all the time. If brief asides are pounced upon it becomes very restrictive and less fun - and EVERYBODY does it sometimes. Yes, even you, James! A discussion about NAMM is bound to veer off course into various products/technologies.

My apologies...perhaps I jumped a little too quickly.
However, it appeared that the discussion may become deteriorate into an argument about the strengths/weaknesses of iLok and dongles.

Back on topic (!), that's a great price for the HP503 - it's the same keyboard action as the FP-7F, yes?

Cheers,
James

Cheers Dave!

Just out of curiosity, what phones were connected to the Nords, Korgs, and Yammies?

I wonder who had the worst phones? wink

Yes, the MOX8/XS piano sound is very musical, to my ears. I did a bunch of gigs this past summer with the MOX and a Kronos, and I chose to use the Yamaha's piano sound. The Yamaha has its imperfections, and there are ways that the Korg may be, in some ways, more accurate, but the Yamaha just sounded and felt better to actually play. Especially after I found some EQ settings I liked.

Am I correct in thinking that the MOX8 can load new samples (official Yamaha content only?) in a similar way to that of the Nords?

Cheers,
James

Sadly, no. Loading samples is one of the big things that differentiates the higher end Motif line from the lower end. So the model with all the MOX sounds plus sample loading (and lots of other stuff) is the Motif XF. (And it's not limited to official Yamaha content, either.) Unfortunately, besides being a lot pricier, they are a lot bigger and heavier to lug around.

Although there are some patch variations, AFAIK, there is only one piano sample i the MOX. At any rate, I just used patch 1, with some EQ (and the reverb turned off). I have a video from a gig I've been meaning to put up, I'll try to remember to post back when I do.

Dave how'd that SK5 compare to the CF6? Two extraordinary pianos in their own right. When I bust the music scene wide open, perhaps one of the above will be in my home. smile

Hi bro:
I wonder if you could kindly post your source of information regarding the price.
For HP series itself I wonder if it's used to replace HP30X series if the price is true.

The question is ... do you think the CF6 is closer to a S6 or a American Steinway C in sound ? I think its far more Steinway (with a Japanese twist) then anything Yamaha has ever done before.

Nah I think meant a B ... around a 7 footer. I think the C's are 7'6" or thereabouts are very euro sounding.

Yes its nice alright but I'm sorry I didn't put up more of a fight with my "lovely" bride to get another 2 foot wink
She puts up with enough keyboards in the house so what's another 2 feet really ?

Why doesn't the American market get Steinway C pianos? I'm guessing they'd do pretty well with all the colleges, churches, etc. .

Here is a nice upright piano for an american church. It is not quite 2 storeys high, but it should be loud enough grin

How absolutely wonderous, however my pessimistic mind immediately realises that the hammers would be travelling horizontally like in an upright piano, so it would not be a proper grand action. Drats!!! ;^)

The Roland FP-7F page bills the instrument as having a PHAIII Ivory Feel-S action, but the new HP500 series is divided up into PHAIII and Ivory Feel-S as two distinct things, so which action in the new keyboards is closest to the FP-7F?
