Came across a product that will be released some time later this year to the public. It is quite amazing when applied to surfaces in repelling water, dirt and even more adhering substances. Its so durable a pressure washer will not remove it and can be applied only microns thick to a surface to protect it. I was thinking how this could be used on pianos, perhaps coating the strings, maybe the soundboard, heck...spray the whole thing. Check out the videos at the site, its almost uneleivable how the shoes and pc board are protected. Would be nice to get some stocks in this company if they come up. http://www.neverwet.com/videos-news.php

Very interesting. Could be the solution to anti-rusting of strings. Could be resistent to finger oil and no tarnishing on strings. Someone here in the piano industry should test it out.

This is a revolution. If you create a "clothes" for piano, it will eliminate the need to monitor humidity. Dust will also lose its harmful effect. Wow!

This might be good for a 'French polish' surface of the piano body, but I wonder if it will change the look of a black satin finish, or natural-wood look, like mahogany for example.
And the use on strings to prevent rusting is a cool idea, but will it effect the vibrating and harmonics of the strings to the point where there is a timbre change to the listener?
Some questions to consider.
Thanks for the link - this will be invaluable to cell phones and the like in the future.

Because this product is only microns thick when applied, it would add little weight to the strings. I doubt it would change the tone. I've been using Eezox for years on the strings. It probably leaves more residue than this product and it doesn't change the tone in any noticable way.

The biggest problem is the product doesn't seem to be available anywhere.
The other thing I think about is the toxicity both in the product itself and in the manufacturing. Would you really want to get this stuff on your skin? or your eye??

Ryan, the product is very new and first of its kind. Company says it will be on the market by mid year. Touch an apple fresh from the market and you got toxic pesticides on you, welcome to the modern world.
I'm pretty sure its no worse than spraying paint from a can since the one demo shows the guy spraying it without a mask. Also, if a high pressure washer doesn't remove it, I would think your finger rubbing on it won't be an issue. Either way, they usually test these things for safety and probably worse case scenario, you won't be able to buy it in California or something like that.

Although nanotechnology is quite the flavour of the decade, the whole issue of health effects of nanoparticles has not been properly researched and resolved. They are so small that they do not behave in normal, expected ways (which is one of the reasons this coating works the way that it does).
