Good morning chaps,

The other day my audio cables (standard mono 'guitar' type) finally bit the dust after months of scratching around the jack. So I went onto Amazon to buy a new pair, ahead of next week's band practises.

I don't use these cables at home - just for band practises at the rehearsal studio, where I typically plug my Nord into a Roland JC-150 or KC-350. I use organ and EP/Clav sounds almost exclusively, so am not overly concerned by the lack of fidelity when occasionally using acoustic piano sounds.

When practising at home, I usually use headphones, but occasionally plug into a cheap Creative 2.1 speaker system.

Anyway, so I'm on Amazon, searching for audio cables, and am about to buy a pair of these. Then a little further down the page I see a bundle offer for the cable + a Vox Pathfinder 10 amp - it seems like a good deal.

The Pathfinder 10 is a tiny little amp, but I think it may be suitable for practising organ/EP riffs in my little apartment. It's mono only, obviously, so I'll loose the nice panning and stereo effects I'm used to hearing through headphones... however apart from this, are there any reasons not to buy myself this little amp for solo practise?

Sure, for practice this is fine. Now remember that this amp is no better or worse (IMO) than most other small low power practice amps, even if it is a little more expensive than some. Of course, the color is an important factor!

I actually thought the price was pretty good, however if you can recommend some alternative practise amps, I would be grateful.

How about the new Yamaha THR amps?
They look pretty sexy (although not red), however I have some [cough] moral issues about purchasing Yamaha gear...

Isn't that an electric-guitar practice amp? If so, the sound would not suit my ears with piano. Way too midrangy.

As noted in my original post, I play EP/organ sounds almost exclusively.

I didn't check the price - the Vox label usually adds a few dollars.
I'm afraid I'm out of the loop on the newer amplifiers. To me, almost any small amp would be suitable for practice, particularly for EP. I, for one, get tired of headphones unless it's "quiet time".

The small Vox I'm familiar with - tube 15 watt - was a $500 unit. The one you're getting is a good deal !

Well, I haven't decided yet, to be honest...

Still humming and harring as to whether I really need an amp.
I live alone, so there's nobody else to worry about other than the folks in the neighbouring apartment (and these Japanese apartments have wafer-thin walls...) - the chap next door plays his DP with headphones, and hear the thumping keys!
