Hello everybody

Does anybody know the scale/string sizes on Kawai KG-2E? I'm trying to replace new strings and all the numbers on briges are gone. Also, I know there is a book/guide on the market with all those informations to all pianos (not only American pianos) but unfortunately I can't find it anywhere, does anybody know what is the name of the book or where can I buy it? Thank you

Most rebuiders that I know simply measure all the strings and record them before unstringing the piano. Get out your micrometer and open a spreadsheet...

That being said, you could just contact Kawai and ask if they have the strings scale.

Mapes makes strings for Kawai. They undoubtedly have the information on file. 423 543-3195

I think A Guide to Restringing by Travis is what you want. But it doesn't have all scales, just some.

Quote:
A Guide to Restringing; by John Travis
The definitive book on the subject

A GUIDE TO RESTRINGING By John W. Travis. Crammed full of valuable data on “how to do” the
various jobs called for in the process of stringing pianos. Complete with charts, reference, index and
a chapter on tuning with illustrated tables and visual aids. Also contains over 350 separate stringing scales.
288 pages. A MUST for any student of the craft.

Hard Cover Book. Very Good condition. 2nd edition. The cover is a little scuffed up, but the inside is excellent.
The author of this book, while serving in the United States Navy, had the job of caring for the band instruments at the Navy School of Music in Washington, D.C. Much of the information contained in this book was gleaned from that job and his research at the music school's library. The book contains illustrations, charts, diagrams, tables, notes, references, bibliography, glossary, and an index. This copy is clean and solid.

That is not the same as what Kawai specified for the original KG-2 (500), so be certain that it is the specific model.

This is from the 1990 Kawai Service Manual. The KG-2A and KG-2E have different stringing schedules from the other
KG-2 models. I don't know about the 500.

Thanks Craig and everybody for your help. I appreciate very much plus I'm impress how powerfull and effective might this Forum be. Mapes uses a "Guide to restinging" by Travis but it only have a scale to KG-2 (in general, no particular models, goes from size 14 to 19) which is totally different than the scale for KG-2E listed in Kawai Service Manual (from 13 to 20). I'll try to contact Kawai directly just to confirm it. Thank you again and all best

Once I see a number of different factory stringing scales for similar models, I figure that the piano is fair game for rescaling. See the topic on the 6' Lester.
