I have a yamaha clp 440 and would like some basic backing tracks so i can play along to in the keys of c, d, g, . Well i am just wondering how i can get hold of any backing tracks, And can i play them from the pianos internal computer or would i need a cd or mp3 player.

Dazzie, the CLP-440 can playback .WAV (and presumably .MID - although this is not listed on the website specifications) files from USB memory, so it should be relatively easy to achieve what you're hoping.

A programme like 'Band in a Box' allows you to create your own backing tracks, or you can download free/not-free WAV and MID tracks from various sites online - just try Googling 'WAV backing tracks', for example.

James beat me to it. I was also going to suggest Band In A Box.

It's a relatively simple program to use and the results are good enough for me to occasionally to use in public. (I have ethical problems using software to replace musicians but if I'm hired as a single, I'll use it for some numbers.)

Hi ! I am still thinking of getting band in a box but in the mean time i download a midi guitar backing track to test i saved it to usb, I pluged it in to the piano and it played but the sound seem to over power the sound of the keys . Well you can hardly hear the keys being played over the sound of the backing track.

It should be possible to adjust the playback volume of the MIDI file.

Please check your Yamaha's owner's manual.

I checked the manual and there is know way to change the midi volume only the over all volume of the piano. I noticed on the backing track it had piano sounds on it could this be why ? I dont know much about midi but wouldnt the piano auto detect the sound of the midi file.

Yes, the MIDI file should contain information about which sound should be used for each track.

This is not always the case, however.
