Hi. I'm new here, and trying to figure out what my piano is worth before I sell it. I've called the factory and they seem it think it's very valuable because there are not many, if any around. They think it could be worth at least between 18k-24k and only increasing every year because of its rarity. So, this could definitely be a valuable investment for someone. I've looked everywhere and can't find a similar one like mine. It's from the late 1980's...Otto Altenburg Baby Grand, with * Renner action, (this is rare). It has a beautiful satin finish on the wood. Excellent condition, rarely ever used 1-owner. Just tuned up. 88 keys/3 pedals. Beautiful and hard-to-find. The model # on it reads: "OA-507R". I have pictures, if anyone needs to see them. Thanks! [img:center] http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/msg/2760194275.html[/img]

Hi there,
Did they actually build this-- I thought this piano was made for them by someone else. Pianos do not appreciate in value in their first 30 years - sorry. At 30 years old, most of the depreciation has taken place until the instrument becomes unusable or needs rebuilding.

Otto, this sounds as much like an ad as it does a query. However, if the factory has offered you that price, you should take it, as I doubt you will get a better offer.
Pianos are not investments in the way you seem to mean it, and there is a difference between 'rare' and 'unheard of.'

88 pedals. Beautiful and hard-to-find Wow, you can say that again! A pedal for every key! I’m sure you meant 88 keys. I’ve heard of the Otto Altenburg brand, but I’m with terminaldegree, I’m thinking there is nothing special about the make, but I could be wrong. Also, Renner actions and parts are quite popular on a lot of good quality brands. I don’t see anything really special or rare there. Welcome to the Piano World Forums, by-the-way! Good luck selling your piano. Rick

ok, thank you....they didn't offer me that, they said that would be how much it could be worth nowadays, and I'm pretty sure they said it'd increase in value because it was originally manufactured in Germany

AFAIK, Otto Altenburg is the house brand of piano offered by Altenburg Pianos in Elizabeth, NJ. I believe they have for a long time been made in Asia. I'd be surprised if it were made in Germany...but I'm not in the trade, so others will know more than I do.

If it's from the '80's it's made in China. Methinks a salesman was having a little fun with you. The owner of the name is Altenburg Piano in Elizabeth NJ.

....I mean the Renner parts are made in Germany, that's why they said it was more valuable.

....I mean the Renner parts are made in Germany, that's why they said it was more valuable. Oh, that's quite possible. I recall being in the store and being told one of the Altenburgs on the floor had a Renner action. So perhaps that adds value.
