A thirst for BachSorry this isn't piano related, but I didn't know who else to ask. -Daniel

I can explain! Two guys lost in the desert, trying to find their way to the oasis. When you're lost, it's a cliche to realize you've been going in circles by some familiar sign, e.g. "I think we've been going in circles-- I've seen that tree before." Same idea here, made absurd/funny by having the recognized object be a particular rendition of the cello suites. What makes it funnier is that the guy doesn't just recognize a cellist. (You can imagine: "I think we're going in circles-- there's that cellist again.") Instead, it's the particular performance of the Bach that he recognizes-- as if there are lots of cellists scattered about this desert, all playing Bach suites, and this guy now thinks they're going in circles because he recognizes a particular interpretation. -Jason

Maybe it is a comment on the lack of originality in classical performances these days, that performances are (frequently) so similar that one could not tell them apart, even if your life depended on it.
