I got to choose the repertoire for my Junior Recital, and I must say this is the first time in a long time that I have been excited about all pieces I will learn.
Bach Prelude and Fugue in E flat Major Book 1 WTC
Beethoven Sonata in D major Op 10 no 3
Intermission
Debussy Estampes(to be decided if all three movements later or just first and last movement)
Radiohead/Christopher O'Riley subterranean homesick alien
Lieberman Nocturne No. 2
Scriabin Etude Op. 8 No. 12
Poeme Op 32 no 1
Chopin Ballade No 3(or the Scriabin Fantasie Op 28, Have not settled between those two pieces.)

Thanks, I was just really excited, I know that in the past, I tend not to have a balanced program, this was just one of those times I felt I had a good balance of everything.

Love that P&F, it was the first one I ever learned by heart (also as an undergrad). The prelude is so grand and transcendant.. it feels too great to be merely a prelude to something!

I was originally going to do the G minor PF from WTC II. But after I heard the E-Flat...I fell in love, I know not as tough as the G minor, refering to the intense fugue, I had to pick the E flat.

Though, I would like to ask, if you had the choice, would you pick Chopin Ballade or the Scriabin Fantasie?

Maybe the Fantasie? That way you have all that Scriabin at the end... and there is (perhaps) some sense of the recital leading somewhere. To end with the Chopin might tip the whole thing away from cohesion.

Where did you find sheet music for the Christopher O'Riley stuff? I have his Radiohead CD but I've never seen sheet music.

Where did you find sheet music for the Christopher O'Riley stuff? I have his Radiohead CD but I've never seen sheet music. Off of his website actually, it was a really nice book, thought more of a coffee table book. But collects I think all but one or two of his radiohead transcriptions.

Liebermann's Nocturnes are wonderful. I am surprised they are not programmed more often.

I have a recital coming up and was considering one of the Nocturnes to fill out the second half. Originally I was thinking No. 4, but its a little more than I think can chew off right now. Just listened to 2 again. It really is lovely.

I was looking at four as well, it has some real tricky spots in it. Sounds amazing though. I ended up picking no 2, it reminded me of Chopin. I enjoyed the deliberate pace, and it stretch across the keyboard.
