Is this the year they started building them in Japan?
Anything I should look for?
Is this a decent price?

That's a fair price. I'd offer a touch lower than 9k. Get a technician to inspect it for problems, but if it was taken good care of and only one owner, it should be basically okay. The Boston 178 was a nice piano.

Thanks for you reply. I think it is a possibility to go a little down in price on that. I will wait until I hear from the tech evaluation.

I really like how this Boston sounds, as well as other Bostons I tried.
Went to a Steinway locally and tried some Essexes (didn't like) and Bostons.

Our budget is $10k only unfortunately.

About this Boston: just afraid it was the first year they made it, should I be worried?

Will it serve us well at least 15 years?
It was owned by a jazz pianist who passed away three years ago and nobody was playing it since.

The other instruments I have been looking at were Kawai RX-2, but then again
I prefer the sound on Bostons better.
Am I making the right decision?

If you like it better, you are making the right decision. Both the Kawai and the Boston are nice.

I would't think that even if it was the first year it was being produced, it would have problems, unless either your tech points it out or you notice something not right.

I am getting this piano and very excited about this.

We agreed on $8k. The move will be difficult but that's OK.
