Hello Everyone!
I'm new to this site and hope someone out there can help. I just started to learn how to play the piano and need to purchase one in order to practice at home. I live in an apartment and have limited space so my instructor recommended I purchase a digital piano. There are so many to choose from and I've done a little research but need some advice from people that know more about pianos and learning how to play. I don't need anything fancy, just something that is a good piano to start with. One piano that I'm considering is the KORG lp 350. I also saw the Casio ap 620. Any thoughts or advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you! smile

Hi. There are many good choices available. Generally you will find the following price ranges so if you have an idea of your budget folks can more readily provide suggestions. Ive listed some of the more discussed/popular dp's for each range as a starting point. It may also help in knowing how long you've been playing, and whether you want a console style piano (looks like a traditional acoustic) or a stage piano (can sit on a metal stand and be more easily moved around). Generally the furniture stour dp's may provide you with better sound through larger speakers. Stage pianos may come with more features/sounds but smaller or no speakers. Good luck in your search.

~ $500 (yamaha p95, Korg sp170, casio cdp200)
~ $600 - $1000 (yamaha p155, (Korg sp250, casio px130)
~ $1100 - $1500 (Kawai cn23)
~ $1600 - >$2000 (Kawai mp6, Kawai mp10, Roland fp7f)

I'm listing approximate pricing in Canadian dollars.

Thanks so much for your response!
I am a true beginner (have only had three lessons) but I am absolutely in love with it and hope to stick with this for the long-haul. My price range is about $1,000 and prefer an upright (that have the look of the Korg and Casio I referred to). I hope this helps a little...

Thanks again everyone! smile

I believe the Korg lp350 is the same piano as the Korg sp250 but in a furniture style cabinet. There has been some speculation that the 250 may be upgraded soon as it has been out for many years. A recent post has somebody able to get the 250 for $599. At that price it is an excellent choice I think. Not that a new model makes the older one less useful or anything just somethingnto keep in mind.

Also check out the Kawai cn13, cn23 models as these are close to your price range. And there is also Yamaha ydp141, 161 as well.

You will need to go play and listen to each of these as they will all sound and feel different. I didn't like the keys on the Roland but found I loved Kawai, yamaha, and Korg. I found I like the sound of Kawai and yamaha the best. The models I liked the least were the casios. They had a lot of extra features but I didn't much like the keys as I played them. Even with your limited experience you will start to feel the difference in all the different keyboards. Some are soft, springy, mushy, hard, light, heavy, etc. Keep in mind this is subjective though and Each person will describe the same piano differently as they will like different things. At your price point you get a nice dp.
