That's standard sales BS. A salesman wants to sell whatever he has on hand, and he wants to sell right now. If he doesn't have what you want, just move on.

But I just want to make sure. I made it very clear to the salesman that if they couldn't offer me a more impressive deal than my last quote, then I wont be interested. The problem though, if it is true, the other retailer wont be able to order it either. Which is why I need confirmation before I place the order.

I believe Northern Japan's chip production in that region was slowed down by the tsunami. Wether there are backorders at Yamaha or your salesman was just blowing smoke at you I can't say but I have heard some keyboard mfg in Japan has been a bit slow!

Thanks, hopefully that isn't the case. I wont be able to wait until mid march for them to get more in stock.

The store could be telling the truth.
I forget the specifics, but when I ordered my N3 I was initially told it could be within days or several months. There's a distribution center and if your model is not in stock it will be on the next boat .... which could be a few months away.
When I ordered my C5 I had to wait five or six weeks since the dealer didn't have one in stock, nor did the distributor.
